Should I write to disk more often or less often to do seti work faster? All of my cpu and memorey usages are set in the 90's and I don't have limits on when boinc can run. I do tone down usages while I'm actually sitting infront of the keyboard ( I don't like warcraft to lag...) It also seems like no matter what I set me contact time to I get the same amount of work. I have my laptop set to 10 days because I don't always have it connected to the internet but sometimes it still gives me tasks with a deadline sooner than I plan on/ am able to connect again. |

The servers ignore deadlines and current CPU times of tasks already on the host. In addition, the server is perfectly willing to send work with deadlines less than the proposed maximum connect interval. BOINC WIKI |

yeah, it's cascaded me before. I'm working on one task, then it gives me new ones I don't have time to finish but my computer starts anyway. By the time it's done there are ones I WOULD have had time to complete that will become overdue before they are all done. is there a way to change it other than verifying I have enough time for all tasks and then setting it to "no new tasks"? Also still waiting for someone to advise me on "write to disk" |

Write to disk is up to you and the way you use your computer and your personal preferences. I have Boinc installed on my second drive. My systems crunch 24/7, I leave my application in memory, switching task is set for 2.5 hrs (many of my projects complete tasks within this time) and I have the write to disk at 30 min. This works fine for me, I rarely loose any crunching time, and it give the drive plenty of down time. Boinc V7.2.42 Win7 i5 3.33G 4GB, GTX470 |

The only project I'm running right now is seti@home so I'll take your advice and set me times to my mean tast time. Thank you both for your answers. Happy Alien Hunting :) |

Happy Alien Hunting :) If you are always connected, a queue (Connect Every X) of about a day if you are only attached to one project or 0.1 days if you are attached to several projects should do you well. If you are NOT always connected, then having the Connect Every X days set to a little longer than the interval between your normal connections is good. BOINC WIKI |
