Under General Preference Disk and memory usage Use at most 100 GB disk space <--Is this all the space is going to take from my HHD? Can someone please clarify why does Boinc need such huge amount of space from my HHD. Then two more lines under I found the same thing but with % Use at most 50% of total disk space Can someone plz explain. Machine A. Ubuntu 7.04 (Linux) Intel Pentium 4 HT @ 2.8Ghz FSB 800 1024 DDR2 Nvidia GeForce 6200 TurboCache, 256 GDDR2 Machine B. Windows XP SP2 AMD64 @ 1.8Ghz FSB 800 (Socket754) 1024 DDR 400 ATI Radeon X800 Pro, 256 GDDR3 |

Under General Preference How much disk is used depends on how which projects are attached and active as well as how many tasks are downloaded from each. S@H for example uses about 30Mb + about 5Mb / active task (less for tasks that have not started yet, or have completed). CPDN on the other hand uses about 1GB per active task, and they used to store the results on your host for further computation if it was deemed necessary. 100GB max will store a large number of tasks from any set of projects. If the limit is reached, BOINC will refuse to download any more work until such a time as the limit is no longer reached. This is true of the other two settings as well. Leave at least X free. At least X must be free on the hard disk. Use at most 50% of the HD. Limits BOINC to at most 50% of the HD. The defaults allow unlimited access for BOINC to most hard disks (I have a couple where I have had to modify the leave at least X free - the HD was smaller than the default setting). Typically if CPDN is not attached to the host, BOINC will use at most 200MB HD. Typically, if CPDN is installed, it will use < 1.5 GB. On some machines, CPDN will download more than one task (multiple CPUS) and BOINC will use several GB of HD. BOINC WIKI |
