Is anyone running 4.08? Any problems? |

And which version should we be running? Will we lose work we haven't been able to report if we switch to a newer Boinc version? |

> Is anyone running 4.08? > Any problems? I'm running 4.09 (boinc_public-cvs-2004-09-07) for Linux, so far no problems... About the work units, well, all I can say is that it picks up where it left and off, plus a CPU benchmark if it detects a new version. |

Got it running on my win 98 box Installs ok. Starts ok ,it runs the benchmark ok. But, the gui went not responding a few times during initial download of wu. System graphics also was close to freezing. I had to use task manager to kill it ( gui) and restart ita few times. Seems to run ok after download of wu's. |

Hi all, Does anyone know if this (4.08) is what we are all supposed to be running now? What does it fix/break? I'm still running 4.05 on xp pro sp2, it's working as smooth as clockwork, so I'm a bit reluctant to update, unless I'll benefit somehow. Thanks, TTFN from Blighty Ken Phillips - UK |

> Does anyone know if this (4.08) is what we are all supposed to be running now? I think it's for win 95/98/ME problems, but since the code will probably transfer to the next update, I figured running it now on my XP systems would be best. |

hi all finished to migrate the Boinc Gui to 4.08 to a couple of windows 2000 and win XP (server and home) all are still working. some uploaded, some got new work. The Clients with seti@home and cpdn also still working whats new (what I'have seen) -no longer preemted message, now message "paused" while preemting -much more implementation of rpc call -host information are now fine over rpc (wasn't the case on initial 4.x) -additional command set for rpc If you have an advanced Management Tool, like BoincView (v 08xx) ore other tools, now all client information are (re-)served over rpc. no more use of "stone-aged" shared drives or unc connection to get "full" or partial client information. Once again, thankyou to the stuff in berkeley, not only for bug fixed version, but also an "evolution" version. If you install the 4.08 gui, please don't forget to copy the symbol files to the boinc directory, in case of an "abend", there is "more developer" informations taken for debug at ucb. |

The alpha download site contains completely untested code. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. 4.08 just hit alpha today, and the alpha team has had no time to test it yet. Sometimes the code is OK, and sometimes it is not ready for general consumption as it is worse than the code that is available other places. That said, if you are willing to take the risk, no one will prevent you. But it if it goes crash, no whining allowed. If you can tell everyone nicely how it went crash, so much the better. |

Tried 4.08 on XP Home SP1 and it set right up- ran the benchmarks- and went for about a minute before the gui locked up. Killed it with the task manager and tried to restart it but no dice. Back now to 4.05 which is humming along OK....cc |
