Well, I finally made it!!! 8 years today, 23 June 2007. I've been thru a lot; Classic, BOINC, Katrina (Aug. '05), Ophelia (Sept. '05), Rita (Sept. '05), 3 moves (2 forced by hurricanes or damage from hurricanes, 1 due to a new job brought on by hurricanes), BUT I am still here and still crunching. I started this project 8 years ago because I liked the idea of doing something for science and I liked the screensaver. SETI@Home was, is and always will be my ONLY project. During Classic I learned about the command line client and stopped using the screensaver to crunch more work units. I kept with it and crunched non-stop except for the forced evacuations after hurricanes Katrina, Ophelia and Rita. During that time, I watched the message boards from my sister's house in South Carolina, even though I wasn't able to crunch. I think in the 8 years that I have been participating, the total time that I didn't crunch work units was approximately 10 weeks. I only have 4 machines up and running right now due to my most recent move to Baton Rouge, LA., due to a new job. But very shortly I will have my other 5 machines up and running again. I had expected to reach my personal goal of 1,000,000 total credits on or before this day, but due to mother nature interfering with my crunching, I fell a little short. But I will keep working, keep crunching, keep helping the project until the day that we find THAT signal, and beyond. Thanks for all the wonderful times, great work and super people that I've met along the way.

Respectfully Submitted,

mjmanix

Interesting. My 8-year anniversary went by without me even noticing. That is how SETI has mostly been for me: working away unnoticed in the background.

Congrats to all my fellow 8-year members!

Didn't quite make 1 million (SETI) cobblestones in time for the anniversary, but I'm working on it.
