(Jumping the gun slightly to be the thread starter ;D )

In a few short hours I shall have done 8 years crunching:

SETI@home member since 3 Apr 1999

Seem to have come a long way from the screensaver on a 166MHz laptop, turning in one WU every 1 to 2 weeks, to turning in several each hour - across multiple machines!

Congratulations to fellow 8 year club members.

Nearly 8 years. I hope it will not last ten times that period to find 'the' answer.

I remember seeing something on discovery channel where they interviewed Dr. Seth Shostak and he said that he expects something to be found in the next 20 years or so.

I could be wrong on the numbers though... if anyone has a link to the interview or something similar, please go ahead.

Thanks for the link !

However, i'm not quite sure if we're really searching the right subband for ET signals.

The interesting part would be why exactly we're searching on 1.42 MHz and what makes the scientist that sure that it's got to be Hydrogen.

Maybe Eric can answer that one ?

I still have 44 days until I hit 8 years, but I plan on crunching until ET finally lands.

I could pretend to belong here as well, as my join date states such beneath my avatar, but...

This date is most people who have it a fake, it was a databas glitch with the second update of the classic stats to the BOINC accounts.
Afaik at first the old timers lost their early date, then something was changed, and those veterans got their date back, but along this we only-Boincers got this weird new date, Joined: Apr 3, 1999.

My real join date is October 24, 2004, I've written it down somewhere, as otherwise it would have been lost.

Congratz to you, Mike, to have this join date as a real date, I think you're a minority in the Class of Apr 3, 1999

On your SETI@home page over there, look for the line that reads “Link to position in 'sign-up date' stats here”; you’re in eighth place at the moment.
