Hello,

I noticed that one of the WUs my laptop was working on for SETI seems to have stalled while nearing completion (97%).

I had disabled the screensaver option and when I activated the "graphics" from the "show graphics" button, I noticed that the percentage on the screensaver is different (95.95%) and the "box" which visualizes the process does not show, whereas the graph above the percentage bar moves very slowly.

Currently, I have suspended this WU and the one next in line is progressing normally. Similarly, Rosetta is also operating normally.

Any ideas?

This happens once in a while, especially on multi-CPU systems. (Is it your dual Intel host?) If you open the Task Manager, you may see an 'extra' S@h thread that's doing nothing but using a few percent of the CPU …

Stopping and relaunching BOINC, evoking fresh instances of the science app, usually nudges such a stalled task out of its rut.

Yes, it was the Centrino duo that had run into this issue.

I relaunched BOINC (actually, I restarted Windows and indeed the WU restarted but then it encountered some problem: the completion % began fluctuating between 95% (which was what I saw on the stalled screensaver) and 97% which was the figure on the extended BOINC view. A few seconds later the WU jumped from 97% to 100% and, predictably, I got a "computation error" as a result.

Actually, this was my first compute error since rejoining SETI (I had some validation errors but never a client error).

Oh, well, back to work.
