I have a similar problem. Running Boinc SETI or AP will eventually reboot my computer (anywhere from few minutes to several hours, but it has rebooted every single time so far). No entries added to system log, no admistrative alert shown after reboot. The system just reboots, like I'd pressed the reset button. This is not acceptable since, I run a few 24/7 services on my PC and random rebooting is not good.

WinXP Pro SP1, AMD XP 2400+, Boinc 3.19 (+seti 3.08)

I'm sure it's not an overheat issue or anything like that, because SETI Classic runs rock solid for several weeks in a row. With the same background apps running (firewall, antivirus and few other common services). 'Automatically restart on system failure' is also disabled in WinXP settings so it truly is a critical error that causes the reboot.

Same problem here except my computer shuts down. Running XP Pro SP1, AMD XP (cant remember, ~2079MHz), Boinc 3.19 and Seti 3.08. I dont know whats wrong, but I have the side off my computer, and once I was around when it shut down.

I noticed a change in the sound of the computer....possibly a problem with power drain...not sure. Also, it seems that when I start the computer back up its just starting a new WU, is it restarting one it was working on or is it that it had just finished one when it shut down. I'm on a modem, so maybe it was trying to dial (even though I have had Disabled the Network on occations). Guess its back to Classic for now.

These still sound like heat problems to me. The BOINC version of seti will cause the CPU to run 1 to 5 degrees C hotter than the original version did.

Well I found out my problem, its the CPU. Shes running way too hot when either BOINC or SETI Classic are running. This may be due to a pretty bad storm the other day, although I do have a surge protector. When I turn on SETI it takes seconds before the CPU Diode temp exceeds 80 Celcius, at 85 my motherboard has a safety feature which shuts the computer down. Time for a new CPU. I tried setting a housefan up to the open side of my case, but it didnt seem to make a difference. If anyone knows of a way I might be able to fix this without emptying my wallet for a new CPU, that would be great.

Lapping and reinstalling the CPU heatsink might help. Make sure you get some good thermal compound to put in there and it only takes a little. You also may want to consider getting a new heatsink and fan if you are useing the standard one.

I used this as an excuse to grab myself a new CPU (AMD 3200+). Installed it and it solved all my problems. The CPU Diode is now at about 56C during full load. The other CPU is still under warrenty, so I'm going to send it away, and hopefully break even.

Allright, more good/bad news. Predictor@Home runs flawlessly...Seti@Home keeps crashing. So it would seem the problem is not in the core-client, but the Seti-program.

Definitely not an overheat issue for me, full load temps stay the same with boinc (around 50-51 deg C, plenty of headroom) as they are with Classic

Edit: Duh, douple post....moderators, feel free to delete.

Ps. Now using 3.20 core.
