How is BOINC installed (service, multiple user, or single user)? If it is multiple user, does the logged in user have full access to the BOINC directory tree? If it is a single user or a serivce install, have the rights been changed since install of BOINC? BOINC WIKI |

Einstein is still plugging away, but SETI is giving me this: 3/13/2007 8:54:01 PM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi 3/13/2007 8:54:01 PM|SETI@home|Reason: Requested by user 3/13/2007 8:54:01 PM|SETI@home|Requesting 8640 seconds of new work 3/13/2007 8:54:05 PM||HTTP_CURL:libcurl_exec(): no input file sched_request_setiathome.berkeley.edu.xml 3/13/2007 8:54:05 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request failed: system fopen 3/13/2007 8:54:05 PM|SETI@home|Scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi failed: system fopen |

If it is a single user or a serivce install, have the rights been changed since install of BOINC? Is this your current computer? If so please upgrade to the most recent version, you are still using version 5.2.7. |

It would be helpful if we could get e-mail notices of "mandatory" upgrades. Thanks again. |

Thank you. That seems to have cleared it up. It would be helpful if we could get e-mail notices of "mandatory" upgrades. Thanks again. This is not a "mandatory" update. This update fixed your problem, but there are plenty of people still running old versions just fine. Versions older than 5.2.? calculated credits differently but they are still allowed. There is a line in your messages tab in Boinc periodically that says a new version has been released, but no "mandatory" upgrades for quite a while now. |

To John McLeod VII: thx, but I don't know how to check some of that. It's set up as a 'single user', me and 'guest' are the only options I saw in User Accounts. I don't know what 'rights' are or how to check them? Sorry to be ignorant, Boinc hasn't been working for me for a while now :( Be good :o) ....Be seeing you.... |

Administrater OK, single user and administrator. Unless it is a Vista install, this is not a rights issue. That leads us to the next possibility. Do you have an Anti-Virus and/or Spy Ware detector installed? If so, can you have them exclude the BOINC directory to see if that helps? BOINC WIKI |

Uh, anyone still interested in helping me? I thought of another problem I'm having concurrently: I get a "Buffer Overrun in Windows Explorer" message every time I boot up. If I ignore it (even tho it says to reboot), I can do the usual stuff (sans Seti and Einstein), but if I click "OK", my computer reboots, and the message appears again. Any ideas , anyone? :o) Be well ....Be seeing you.... |

A couple of things here are making it tough to give you a hand. First you never told us of you were running Vista or not. Second, your computer is hidden so none of us could figure that out for ourselves. IIRC, the Buffer overun error for Explorer may be related to a problem with a MS Visual C++ runtime. However it's hard to tell from your description, and the dialog box should be giving you more information. When did you last do a Windows Update? That could be a quick fix for that particular issue. Not Vista, XP sp2 How do I make my computer 'un-hidden'? I have most of the latest updates, but when I tried to update just a moment ago, the downloads failed. The complete dialog box is as follows: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Buffer overrun detected! Program: C:\\WINDOWS\\Explorer.EXE A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the program's internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must now be terminated. ....Be seeing you.... |

Go to Your Account, For the Seti@home preferences, click 'View or Edit'. For the Primary (default) preferences, click the Edit link. The Show Computers option is a radio button on the page that comes up, select 'Yes', click 'Update Preferences' and you're good to go. This runtime error has come up in one of the fora here recently, but I don't have a link to it or recall the exact solution. Let me look around a bit and get back to you on this, unless someone else pops in first that is. ;-) Alinator <edit>DUHHHH..... Alinator! It was on Page 2 in this forum! VC++ Runtime Error |

OK, actually that may have been a good thing, since it forced me to go look at what was being suggested as a fix, and I don't think this was going to help. Sorry, usually I check what I point people to better than that. :-( Alright then, the first question is if you disable BOINC from starting at bootup then the machine runs OK without throwing fault? Give it a good general everyday workout for a while to be sure it's running smooth. Also, this might be time to check for Windows Updates. If so, I'm thinking now the C++ runtime which comes with BOINC may have gotten corrupted on your machine. So since there isn't any work onboard your machine right now, I would suggest uninstalling BOINC and then reinstall it again. Don't detach or reset the project at this point Alinator |
