Because those are the internals of your Macbook Pro? Newer versions of BOINC report details of the CPU’s supported instruction sets in order to allow projects to match optimized versions of their science apps to each host’s capabilities; older versions just pass on the basic model identification provided by the OS. If you look at my computers, for example, you’ll see two C2D iMacs running Mac OS 10.4.9 (AKA “Darwin 8.9.1â€Â) that are quite similarâ€â€but the one running BOINC v5.4.9 appears as “i386 iMac5,1â€Â, Apple’s designation for the model line, while the one running v5.8.17 (the same version as your MacBook Pro) is “GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T7400 @ 2.16GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 6] [FPU VME DE PSE TSC MSR PAE MCE CX8 APIC SEP MTRR PGE MCA CMOV PAT PSE36 CLFSH DS ACPI MMX FXSR SSE SSE2 SS HTT TM SSE3 MON DSCPL VMX EST TM2 MNI CX16 TPR]â€Â. I don’t know why the BOINC developers chose to have all this stuff displayed where it is (it must be a PITA for the stats sites) but I hope they find a way in a future version to make the info available to project servers (I haven’t heard that any are taking advantage of the feature yet) without creating so much ‘clutter’ for us users to look at. |
