We caught up last last night fairly easily from the previous day's sputtering. However this morning kryten was having its good ol' NFS problems, which required a reboot, and then a second reboot to final get its pipes clean. The good news is that Eric is busy assembling more donated materials to build a system that may very be a replacement for kryten. Linux is being installed as I type. Meanwhile, Bob just finished loading up the new BOINC database replica and it will be "catching up" for the next hour or so. Then it will be ready for use. We'll start aiming queries at it once we're confident it is perfectly in sync. We'll call it ready for "prime time" when we have a working UPS on it (just a matter of getting the right cables). - Matt -- BOINC/SETI@home network/web/science/development person -- "Any idiot can have a good idea. Wow, very good news Matt. Its great to "see" the progress you guys are making, and how much the donations from everyone are being put to use. Very awesome job not only by the Seti Staff, but from each and every cruncher who has donated something. This is bringing new life to this project to hopefully keep it running for a long, long time. Thank you for all the updates as well Matt, it is very much appriciated to see the status of everything going on. Jeremy We caught up last last night fairly easily from the previous day's sputtering. I, for one, have gotten confused about what hardware is doing what things. The server status page is a bit cryptic and doesn't seem to have any of the more recent hardware upgrades listed (perhaps appropriately so at this point). Would somebody (who knows and has the time ) make a real simple drawing and post it somewhere, showing the hardware, connectivity, and software apps/OS's? I bet I'm not the only one who 'needs' to know. (Yes, I'm out of work and have lots of time on my hands.) May this Farce be with You |

With the photos, network schema's and info posted so far I could make a Viso drawing of the whole thing but it'll take time. Maybe Matt has something of the sort already. If not, I'd be more then happy to make it. |

Maybe Matt has something of the sort already. Servers and services are always in flux the only map is what exists in my head. And Jeff's head. Bob and Eric have a pretty good idea, too. There's going to be some significant changes, or at least plans for such, in the next week or so, so I wouldn't spend too much effort making a map just yet. - Matt - SETI@home -- BOINC/SETI@home network/web/science/development person -- "Any idiot can have a good idea. @ Matt - what chords the little onE playin' (in your avatar) ;) We were just jammin' on my warr guitar. I believe she was helping me spell out a complete open-voiced F13#11 chord. - Matt -- BOINC/SETI@home network/web/science/development person -- "Any idiot can have a good idea.
