I've installed the 4.06 BOINC client on the one Win98SE system I have here...and it processed the SETI WUs just fine.

But it trashes the CPDN models every time - 4 per day - then they refuse to send you any more.

It returns the following error message:

"Outcome Client error"
"Client state Computing"
"Exit status -2 (0xfffffffe)"
"Host ID 6135"
"Report deadline 18 Aug 2005 5:45:03 UTC"
"CPU time 0.00"
"stderr out"

core_client_version 4.06 -/core_client_version
message - exit code -2 (0xfffffffe) /message
active_task_state 1 /active_task_state
signal 0 /signal

"Hi, unfortunately Windows 98 and NT4 cannot be used to run CPDN, it seems to be dependencies of our Fortran compiler."
Also look at http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/tech_faq_boinc.php

So CPDN crashing has nothing to do with the BOINC core-client.

I missed that completely - where ever it was.

Thanks.

Looks like I'll have to move that system to Linux. I'm sure as hell not buying a copy of Windows just to do CPDN.

Or....to add to my previous post.....I can make the Win98SE system SETI-only....as SETI works just fine.

BOINC 4.07 also trashes CPDN models but seems to fix the problem with setia@home work units which were previously bringing Windows 98SE systems to their knees. So far I have yet to see a warning not to dowload to Windows 98 systems on either site. It's about time somebody did something about that.

Pascal, tell me where you get your information from. The words below are copied from the system requirements of climateprediction.net, just two minutes ago. I believe that Windows 98 counts as above Window95!

Thanks, Pascal

Yes, finally (I know it took a long time) I see what you are saying. Windows98 is very clearly not supported by classic climateprediction. I just happen to have come in from the point of view of BOINC and there is no clue whatsoever on that route that it will not work.
