Hi all,

Recently my BOINC fails to upload the results. I tried to click "Retry Now", "Abort Transfer" and upload it again but failed. Then, tried to "Reset project" and upgraded the BOINC manager to 5.8.11 but the problem still exists. Another project works fine just only SETI project has uploading problem. Any idea? Thanks.

Aborting the transfer, aborted the whole result. Not good.

Resetting the project, junks all your results. Not good.

BOINC is meant to be left alone. It will get the transfers done sooner or later. Playing is just cause for more problems.

Some of the servers changed IP addresses, because of an ISP change. Some people have had to stop and restart BOINC to get it to work, other have had to reboot. Some had to wait until their ISP has gotten the new information, as some ISPs cache things longer than they need to.

Hi Kit,

I reviewed your results and aside from one error, all the remaining Work Units (WUs for short) have been aborted during upload. BOINC is designed so it can work by itself most of the times, but a problem can crop up every once in while.

In your first post you stated that you aborted the upload, but is not clear what prompted you to do so. I suggest that you upgrade your BOINC to version 5.8.11, which some connection problems. I don't have to detach, reset the project or anything like that. Just install the new version over the current one.

Regarding your credits, you'll have to wait for awhile until your machine returns some WUs and those get validated so your credit total will grow again, ok?

If you run into any other problem, please feel free to drop us a line, here or in the Number Crunching forum.

Regards,
Wander

My first post already said that upgraded the BOINC. Now it retry and retry to upload the finished tasks in "Transfers" page in last 2 days. If i do nothing, the queue will increase. None of you has this problem before?

But by doing what you are doing, you are losing all your crunching time anyway. Are you running out of harddrive space? If not just leave them alone and see if the upload in a couple of days. They until the deadline anyway. How long is your workunit cache set for?

Then i leave it until the deadline. But i am not sure what are the meaning of workunit cache? Let me show you all the "Disk and memory usage" setting as follows:

Use at most 1 GB disk space
Leave at least
(Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored) 0.001 GB disk space free
Use at most 50% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every 120 seconds
Use at most 100% of page file (swap space)
Use at most
Enforced by version 5.8 and greater 50% of memory when computer is in use
Use at most
Enforced by version 5.8 and greater 90% of memory when computer is idle

Sorry Kit, I just reviewed your results and I missed the part of the upgrade. Assuming you have a firewall (Windows or third party), is it possible that it is blocking the file transfers to/from BOINC? If you're using a company machine, some proxy servers blocks file transfers to certain internet locations.

Backing off 1 min 0 sec on upload of file 17au03ab.5077.25280.909672.3.229_0_0
Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down.
Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site

The IP to the upload and download servers were changed. If your DNS, or your ISP's DNS is holding onto this old information, that is where you could be having the issue.

if that is caused by ISP's DNS server, i am afriad that giving up SETI is my only way.

Your ISP will eventually catch up now that Seti has fully converted over to their new providers.

The next line should be about trying an alternate site, does your computer connect to it?

Hi Peter,

I see that 3 of your computers haven't contacted the SAH servers for at least 2 days now. Is your proxy server a public or you're using a private (corporate) one? If is public, you can try two things: remove it (by connecting directly to the internet) or pick another from a public listing. I used to connect through a public proxy, but every now and then I had to change it.

However, if you're using a company proxy, maybe they blocked access to the SAH servers IP addresses or they just block file UL. In any case, talk to your IT people about the possibility of adding the SAH addresses to their white list. HTH,

Regards,
Wander
