Now this is the good kind of PR for Seti@Home . . . Agreed, but I've been reading several of those news articles and unfortunately not one of them mentions how to participate in the project, and more importantly doesn't mention the financial difficulties we've been facing the last few years. Feels like a lost opportunity. Regards, Wander |

Time to include a new distributed project: MyPCBack@home ! With a stealth program that regularly pings a server where we have registered our PC with its unique key, and performs nothing else. To make this really stealth, these pings should go to random addresses of participants (so that it can't be easily blocked by simple filtering), that will then be able to reply to stolen PC searches! A great P2P program... May be a privacy issue because your PC usage or current location will be logged. But what would happen if the stolen PC contains the ISP login info? The thieves could as well use your own ISP account instead of creating his own account. |

That's great. Question, who do I contact to search for the laptop I had stolen ? Not a joke, I had a Compaq laptop stolen awhile back. Would love to get it back. |

That's great. Is the stolen laptop still contacting seti/boinc project?? If not, then there'll be no IP to track. |

Time to include a new distributed project: That sounds very much like what Microsoft do already for all Windows PCs... Except that it isn't for that one purpose and "nothing else". Hope I get the (financial) credit for giving Microsoft that idea! (OOoops, that's IP and MUST BE PATENTED IMMEDIATELY.) Happy crunchin', Martin [edit] And that's multiple bad puns in there. :-( [/edit] See new freedom: Mageia Linux Take a look for yourself: Linux Format The Future is what We all make IT (GPLv3) |
