It may be fun for you, and I know it will be informative for me.

Thanks a lot!

"The SnapApp folks were here for most of the afternoon. They replaced the processors with ones that are faster and have larger caches. More importantly, we talked about how to stabilize the system. The plan is to simplify both the HW and service mix as much as possible in the hopes of removing the variable that is causing the hangs (and of course they will be going for the root cause at their lab). We altered the startup so that a bare minimal set of services are running. And we are going to only use the 18000 head unit for now, keeping no data on the sd30 expansion. This means moving some data around. We first have to move the upload/download data to a temporary volume on the sd30, then reconfigure the space on the 18000 head, then move the uldl to the head. The move to the temp volume is happening now. Tomorrow morning we will do the reconfiguration and start final move. With luck we will have the project up by EOD tomorrow."

They installed better processors.

The minimal set of services are probably this website and the ability to upload completed WU's.

They are going to juggle the files around to try and make things more reliable.

Here we go:-

The SnapApp folks were here for most of the afternoon.
=====
The guys from snap app finally turned up and then left cause they needed to get home for the holiday weekend

They replaced the processors with ones that are faster and have larger caches.
======
They couldnt work out what the hell was going on so they have started to randomly change components

More importantly, we talked about how to stabilize the system.
======
The table the snap app is on is a bit wobbly. They have folded a piece of paper and put it under one of the legs. Its much better now.

The plan is to simplify both the HW and service mix as much as possible in the hopes of removing the variable that is causing the hangs (and of course they will be going for the root cause at their lab).
=======
They still dont know what the hell is going on but they've promised to work on it back at base i.e. forget about it the moment they walk out the door.

========
Mmm this is a bit more tricky. Broadly speaking it means theres not a hope of the project being up by EOD tomorrow (technicaly now yesterday). See you Tuesday.

But more seriously - I guess their working hard on a problem that isnt fully understood and will get things going as soon as possible.

> I've been wondering, does this outfit have anything to do with Snapple Apple?

Over in th UK have no idea what snapple apple was so I did a little search and found a great quote:-

"Apples are an essential part of Snapple's history - not only were we were born in the Big Apple, but our first beverage was actually an apple drink!" added Maura Mottolese, Vice President Snapple Marketing.

Well there you have it - Big apple, apple drinks. What more can I say - marketing at its best

[ *lol* started typing with 0 replies seen, ended up as No. 7 after finishing ;) ]

Hm, while I'm not 100.0% sure what "layman terms" exactly stands for, I assume you mean either a) fun or b) "so that normal human beings can understand it"

I'm going for a mix of both (just for the fun of it) ;)

Free "GeekTalk-to-Human" translation to follow :
=============================
The SnapApp Emergency Task force (Quick Reaction-Team for urgent repairs of catastrophic events occuring on their supported Hardware) was here for most of the afternoon.
Not knowing exactly what was wrong with the machine, they thought it was always a good Idea to upgrade the System's Processors as a first step. While that didn't fix the Problem by itself, the machine was able to reproduce the errors at a much higher performance ;)
Most importantly, however, heavy arguments were exchanged and heated discussion was held between us and the SnapApp people, as to how to stabilize the affected machine.
The current plan is to simplify the Hardware by removing unneeded components, as well as minimizing the amount of running services performed by it in order to narrow down on the elusive error that causes the machine to stumble.
(having observed the recent 'non-advertised product features' and shared the 'special experiences' we've had with the machine, they will continue analysis on a deeper level in their own laboratories)

We have changed the Software configuration so that the System is (for now) running with an absolutely minimum of Services.
Additionally, we have modified the storage setup, which is now exclusively limited to the "SnapAppliance 18000"
(See this Link for details and specifications)

The available SnapDisk 30 Storage array (Look here for Details and specifications) is presently not used anymore to store data.

Due to this, alot of Data has to be moved around in the entire Setup.
In order to complete this migration of Data, we first have to move the upload/download data to a temporary volume on the SnapDisk 30, then reconfigure the space on the SnapAppliance 18000 System, then move the Upload/Download data back to the SnapAppliance 18000 again.

The move to the temp volume is happening right now. Since this seems to take forever even on our high-performance Storage System, Tomorrow morning we will do the reconfiguration and start final move.
With (more) luck (than we've had the last weeks) we will have the project up by
End of the Day ("EOD") tomorrow :)
==============================

Hope I got it right and that's what they meant, and don't take me spicing up the Text with a bit of fun/humour too seriously ;)

Thanks to everyone for the translations. Among many other things, now I know what EOD means.
