Okay, it would seem that my problem decided to ake and ass of me and resolve itself shortly after I posted that I tto was having a problem. Will keep an eye on it and see if the problem recurs. The new version may have just taken a minute to resolve things. I am glad all is now working. How many accounts do you have on Seti? I do not see any computers when I view yours. Click on my name on the left and you will be able to see my computers, when I do the same to your I don't see an ycomputers. |

[quote]System Status shows that Kryten et al are down. How long have they been down for? I have a similar upload/download problem (either 'failed', 'Deferred communication' or (and the best) "(not requesting new work or reporting completed tasks)". My sole project is SETI, the PC is an Athlon 3000, running WinXP pro and v5.8.14, through a local network. I've flushed the dns as instructed. No change! And it's all silence round here! 73 Dave |

System Status shows that Kryten et al are down. That may have been so when that was originally posted, but they're not down now & things are working normally at present. Grant Darwin NT |

Has something got snarled up? Dave |

Then after it has been down for about 5 minutes restart it. If you un-hide your pc it might help the diagnosis process. |

It transpires that there was a pair of "corrupt" (as in incomplete), files in the transfer box. Aborting them and then issueing a "Project Update" command soon downloaded new stuff for processing and it seems that my PC is Cooking by Gas (again). One last question please. I have a second (slower) PC on the other end of my home network. How can I get it to work as well ?. The two are on a router thing and one machine can 'talk' to the other without too many problems. The second machine will be running Win ME (I have other tasks for it on occasions). And where can I obtain an AVATAR ? 73 Dave |

I have no ideas why my profile has no computers registered to it. Also, to my embarresment I have to admit ignorance as to how to do that ;) |

I tried everything that's on here, but nothing works. It's a very old computer, could that have anything to do with it? It's on the firewall exceptions list, and i've tried everything i could think of. what else is there? |

This is not to say you have not tried to let things thru, this is to say computers are finicky. It is also eliminating known issues. |

Of course, it depends a little on how slow, and how much RAM you have in the slow machine - some projects require more than others. For example, CPDN requires a 1GHZ machine with about 500MB RAM. S@H will run on a Pentium 90 with 64MB RAM (I did that for a while before the machine died). BOINC WIKI |

Okay, seems the problem is now fixed. I detched all projects, uninstalled BOINC and then reinstalled it. After reattaching all projects, it carried on as though there was no problem whatsover, even to d/l and running a SETI workunit. THanks for your time and expertise guys TheAopostate |

Hi all, Could anyone give me a tip? I did everything, which is available (ipconfig / flushdns, ipconfig /registerdns, detach from SETI project, attach to it again, change the client from v5.4.9 to v5.8.15), but it doesn't work. After the install of the client it is unable to download any of the files (e.g. setiathome_5.15_AUTHORS, setiathome_5.15_COPYING, setiathome_5.15_COPYRIGHT, setiathome_5.15_README or any wu), so unable to use it. My opsys is an updated Win2000 SP4. The network is working, I can download the most fresh client, only it doesn't work. The error messages is same like in the first message: "Started download... Temporarily failed download of ... : http error Backing off... Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down." And it's funny that an older client (v5.4.11) is working at work. Any ideas? Thanks for the answers, Kagemusha |

Hi all, Hi Kagemusha, Do you have a Firewall installed in that machine? If so, did you gave permission to BOINC to connect to the internet? Can you access the link below using your browser? It's a link to the DL site which contains all SAH files. http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/ What kind of connection do you have to internet? I see that you machine (ID 3121657) has attached, and got assigned 2 WUs. Did it managed to DL them? Regards, Wander Edit: sorry I didn't noticed the message "access to reference site succeeded". Looking the time stamp of your post, it looks like you were trying to connect during a SAH maintenance outage. Could that be it? |

Hi Wander, First, thanks for the answer. And yes, I have a firewall: ZoneAlarm from ZoneLabs, I gave permission to BOINC to connect, what is more I turned off the firewall for a time, but the error still exists. The above mentioned site doesn't show anything only a blank page in Firefox and "The page cannot be displayed" in IE. I have a cable modem access, 512 kbit/sec down / 192 kbit/sec up. My home machine (ID 3121657) try to download 2 WUs but the client says: 2007. 02. 28. 23:31:38||Starting BOINC client version 5.8.15 for windows_intelx86 2007. 02. 28. 23:31:38||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 2007. 02. 28. 23:31:38||Libraries: libcurl/7.16.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8a zlib/1.2.3 2007. 02. 28. 23:31:38||Data directory: C:\\Program Files\\BOINC 2007. 02. 28. 23:31:38||Processor: 1 AuthenticAMD AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1600+ [x86 Family 6 Model 6 Stepping 2] [fpu tsc sse 3dnow mmx] 2007. 02. 28. 23:31:38||Memory: 1.25 GB physical, 2.60 GB virtual 2007. 02. 28. 23:31:38||Disk: 5.00 GB total, 360.00 MB free 2007. 02. 28. 23:31:38|SETI@home|URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID: 3121657; location: home; project prefs: default 2007. 02. 28. 23:31:38||General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 2006-06-13 15:22:29) 2007. 02. 28. 23:31:38||Host location: home 2007. 02. 28. 23:31:38||General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 2007. 02. 28. 23:31:38|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Started download of file 17no03aa.16461.8530.978394.3.169 2007. 02. 28. 23:31:38|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Started download of file 17no03aa.16461.8530.978394.3.184 2007. 02. 28. 23:32:00||Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site 2007. 02. 28. 23:32:00|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Temporarily failed download of 17no03aa.16461.8530.978394.3.169: system connect 2007. 02. 28. 23:32:00|SETI@home|Backing off 2 min 18 sec on download of file 17no03aa.16461.8530.978394.3.169 2007. 02. 28. 23:32:00|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Temporarily failed download of 17no03aa.16461.8530.978394.3.184: system connect 2007. 02. 28. 23:32:00|SETI@home|Backing off 1 min 19 sec on download of file 17no03aa.16461.8530.978394.3.184 2007. 02. 28. 23:32:02||Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down. 2007. 02. 28. 23:32:57|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Started download of file 17no03aa.16461.8530.978394.3.169 2007. 02. 28. 23:32:58|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Started download of file 17no03aa.16461.8530.978394.3.184 2007. 02. 28. 23:33:19||Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site 2007. 02. 28. 23:33:19|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Temporarily failed download of 17no03aa.16461.8530.978394.3.169: system connect 2007. 02. 28. 23:33:19|SETI@home|Backing off 7 min 39 sec on download of file 17no03aa.16461.8530.978394.3.169 2007. 02. 28. 23:33:20||Access to reference site succeeded - project servers may be temporarily down. 2007. 02. 28. 23:33:20|SETI@home|[file_xfer] Temporarily failed download of 17no03aa.16461.8530.978394.3.184: system connect 2007. 02. 28. 23:33:20|SETI@home|Backing off 2 min 29 sec on download of file 17no03aa.16461.8530.978394.3.184 ...and so on... Hi Kagemusha, If you're unable to open that URL in your browser, maybe there's something wrong with your service provider or with one of the machines that are sitting between you and SAH servers. Can you try the following commands in a Command Prompt window? This is only to test the connection between you and the servers: ping setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu -f -l 1472 ping setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu -f -l 576 Give it a try. Depending on the results there maybe a easy solution. Regards, Wander |
