I have chacked the server status and nothing unusual there. What could be the problem???

For some people closing Boinc and then going to start, run, typing cmd and pressing enter. Then typing 'ipconfig /flushdns' and pressing enter. Then typing 'ipconfig /registerdns' and pressing enter, works to restart the up and downloading of units. Do NOT put the ' when you type the commands, I am using it as a seperator only. For others this does not work at all. They seem to be still working on the servers.

Just to give a better reason why this works is that SETI is moving servers between different ISPs. So the IP changes. If an IP changes, usually when something already started (upload, download, report, or whatever contact it needed) your machine might be holding the old IP. So it can not find the new server's address. What Mikey showed was how to clear / reset this hold.

I wanted to give this explanation so that others that read this thread understand why people tell them to do these steps.

And since they are having some trouble with the new ISP, the machines keep boincing around...

System Status shows that Kryten et al are down.

Hope they didn't crash and burn on re-entry. :-)

Thanks for that. The more information about these things, the better understanding for everyone. Nice one! :o)

I am having trouble connecting to SETI. Everytime i try to connect to upload or download, i keep getting the following messages:-
I have chacked the server status and nothing unusual there. What could be the problem??? :o)

I am sorry to say, that it didn't seem to work for me. In the next day or so I'm going to run out of work on both Seti and on Einstein. Since my connectivity to every other website is working, I am assuming that I haven't messed up anything here. I am running one of the optimized seti clients but the einstein client is stock. I am presuming that they don't trip over each other on connectivity issues.

Is Einstein also having connectivity problems? If so, are the connections to the reference site also having trouble? If the reference site is having trouble, there is some problem that is local to your host, or to your ISP. Note that BOINC does not use your browsers connection to connect, it creates its own connection which is fairly often blocked by persona firewalls.

The good news is that once it occurred to me that "shutting down" Bonic inlcuding stopping the service that was running it, the flush the dns appears to have worked. I had problems getting the service started again which I finally re-booted to get everyone on the same wave length, but it does appear that the problem was non-current IP addresses.

However, Einstein just came back with a non-communications error so whoever is managing the server will have to find out why it can't open some file or other...

Oh, well, for mostly volunteer projects except for the core staff, these things are running remarkably well.

Thanks,
Tom

Exit BOINC. Then restart it.
Failing that, reboot your computer, or reboot your modem if it has it's own power supply.

BOINC 5.8.11 helps a great deal.

Actually both of your computers connected to Seti on the 13th and downloaded units. One of your computers is using 5.4.9 and the other is using version 5.4.11 of Boinc. Updating both computers to version 5.8.11 should help.

Actually I'm having the same problem. Tried the dns thing, no luck. Saw that there was a new client, d/l and installed it, still no luck. Any thoughts or ideas. I'm on both SETI and Einstein, but having no problems with Einstein at the moment, just SETI.

Thanks folks
