I have BOINC on two machines - the single processor XP machine runs fine, but the Dual Processor W2k machine has 'lost' boinc after an hour. I went to the system tray 'show' the client and the icon disappeared. I checked Task Manager and the client was still running, so I re ran the BOINC app - it displays for about 2 seconds and then minimises to the system tray - when I go to the icon, it too disappears?

What gives??

Looks like the BOINC client is crashing but its child process (the seti@home client) is somehow surviving. I just tried killing the BOINC process and I see that the seti@home client does indeed keep on running. But when I start up BOINC again, it doesn't crash but rather starts up a new instance of seti@home. It would probably be a good thing if it checked for stray processes first...

First thing I would try is to kill the seti@home client before trying to restart BOINC. Check the system log for any errors or alerts. Maybe a restart...

Correct! And each time he starts BOINC a NEW child process will start. (I had 5 of them running...)

Check the STDERR.txt file... you will see that BOINC is causing an invalid exception error... and shutting itself down. It's probably writing somewhere that isn't allowed. I have the same problem at work.
