Pappa, as with all such things, the nay-sayers are usually much more vocal than the supporters. Also, at least for me, negative comments stick in your mind longer than positive ones. Don't let it get to you, ...
All well and good for Pappa. He's easily worked up a very good Karma.
But we're missing one Misfit out of all this... With such a non-Karma as his, and all the shotgun blasts of whatever flying his direction at all times day and night, his mind must be a long long way subterranean by now.
Any positivity to retrieve what's left of that poor lost soul? Or is he already Borg-ed beyond redemption?

As one of the concerned folks, please allow me to rephrase my beliefs after some long thoughts.
1) Pappa is overloaded...this may be contributing to the frustrations he's expressed at some of the opinions put here (not mine alone).
2) I believe this has been recommended, but I haven't seen hide-nor-hair of an update. We should have a TEAM of people. Right now there are concerns that the hardware issue is a very one-sided approach without a proper account of what is truly needed compared to what has been offered.
Let's have a TEAM of people (not only Pappa--all due respect Al)...1 on each continent. It would offer a more objective view of what is needed, and I suspect it would SPEED UP donations both hardware and monetary as well as upgrading SETI's systems substantially.
I hope someone of authority will reply to this...

I have waited to see if someone would say something. It appears that part of what you recommended and what I have previously recommend in the past was expressed by Eric in this post Eric's annual post #7: SETI's little helpers, Sick Cat's and more proposals.

I've considered setting up a mailing list for people who want to assist in this manner. That way effort won't be duplicated. Would a little organization help in this case? He has sent the request for "Volunteers," I hope enough people are reading and consider it.
