Hi All, I started a new thread to bring to light and additional instance that could be causing Boinc to Bounce WU's and crash. I have notice that when Boinc stops acting properly, it is always on the computer that I am downloading other programs on, ie my wifes work files, new programs, hurricane tracker updates, Mcafee updates (Covered in another thread). Even though Boinc's network settings are disabled, apparently when Boinc attempts to switch over to crunch a new WU, if you are in the process of downloading ANY OTHER FILE, Boinc stops crunching. Results....Catastrophic Any Additional thoughts? I do an awful lot of downloading, and this is apparently the only common denonmiator that exsists. Lets hope for a better today, and tomorrow ! ! The one thing I've noticed is than when Boinc is running its benchmarks it literally freezes everything else going on. Total computer gridlock. I couldnt even open a new window if I wanted to. Ive had other applications timeout and crash because of this but Boinc continues on like nothing happened. |

@MLCudd I did not notice any problem like this on any of my computers. (Boinc_gui is always listening local port 31416 even if the network activity option is selected.) Are you using any kind of download manager software ? What version do you use ? |

Are you thinkging that might be the issue. I posted in another thread this afternoon that I uninstalled SP2, and noticed dramatic differences in speed between apps, and pages. It's funny to because I downloaded CPDN after the uninstall, and it loaded perfectly, my other box I did not do and Uninstall and it will not download CPDN properly. It hangs on the downloads. @MLCudd Your download manager could be the issue.Sp2 made a lot of changes and your version of DA+ may not be compatible with sp2. I would suggest checking for an update. Or ,if I understand correctly, you still have sp2 on the other box and have the downloader intalled there too : maybe you can uninstall DA+ on the box with sp2 and try a download or if DA+ has the option use windows only to download. It could also be your installation of sp2 itself.I prefer to do these installation in clean boot state. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=310353 ( other kb on sp2 are also available) I install sp2 ( from the cd) on my computer this afternoon and everything is very nice. So you have to investigate. |

Thanks Golden Goose, I will try that, and yes DA + does have the option to use windows only. What is a clean boot state? I apologize I am still pretty new at this. I do not have a SP2 disk, but I will try to locate one somewhere. I never thout about the DA, but I can see the problem. I was wondering though if you knew why without SP2 on this box prsently that everything downloads so well now from CPDN. I could not add a new project at all before, and today it snapped right through it with no hangups. And that download was through the Boinc site direct. Very Sincerely, Rocky Cudd |
