I have downloaded boinc_4.05_i686-pc-linux-gnu.gz a fews times just to make, but i'm still having the same problem.
When I extract the .gz file I get boinc_4.05_i686-pc-linux-gnu. Is there an extension missing? What do I do with this file?
Please forgive me as i new to Linux, but I dont normally have problems like this.

Yes, after gunzip you have "boinc_4.05_i686-pc-linux-gnu".

Now you can start it with ./boinc_4.05_i686-pc-linux-gnu

If you get an error like "permission denied", maybe you have to make the file executable:

chmod +x boinc_4.05_i686-pc-linux-gnu
