It's about what I'd expect using the stock app, yes.

zombie67 is using an optimized app for his T7600 iMac, that's why he can pull such a high RAC (he's using Alex Kan's excellent OSX optimized apps).

HTH,
Simon.

Will Alex's optimized OSX apps work on the Mac Pro?

Thanks for the help. Now to install.

1) Quit BOINC

2) Download the application

3) Extract the files from the download, and copy them into

/Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu

Answer "yes" if it asks if you want to replace.

4) Restart BOINC

I have a fairly new T7600 iMac (2.33ghz), which today hit a RAC best of 2176. It's a daily working machine (nothing too strenuous, just email,

2176 of RACs by a single machine? How is that possible? I have a 2.8 GHz dual-core Pentium D and my highest RAC is about 400. What's wrong?

Well lets start of with the fact that you are running I count 36 projects...you have everything on your machine except kitchensink@home.

I'm NOT SURPRISED in the least that you are only pulling 400 RAC personally I'm running a quad 3Ghz Mac Pro an my RAC is usually around 2400-2450 while I have seen it get to as high as 2800 RAC when the machine is not being used on a daily basis for work. Of course this is a work machine so it only gets to crunch about 80% of the time give or take as work dictates. I'm toying with the Idea of adding a Mac Mini cluster in but I'm not sure how the app would run when it's being redistributed amongst the processors and I may get more bang for the buck by just running it on each machine separately as a farm. Something to toy with and contemplate.

No kidding. Many of the alpha/beta projects have a much lower validation rate. Testing is their point after all.

Ouch! My Quad G5 got up to 2900, and it's a daily worker too. You *really* need to install alexkan's C2D application...immediately! Also, join Team MacNN. =;^)

This has come up a lot on all the major BOINC boards. The general consensus is that the overhead of splitting and distribution of WUs will just slow things down. Better to have a lot of hosts, and manage them via something like BAM.

Zombie is there a good how to out there for swaping the app and client to Alex's optimized app? I have very recently become interested in running his app and have downloaded it but I havent seen anything that tells how to swap it out or install it in Bonic. Any info would be good...I really dont care about graphics...I prefer the raw power/speed.

Just look for my post a few messages earlier in this thread. Very simple instructions.
