Total Raised as of 31 May 2007 $181496.52 or roughly 34% of the $538000 goal.

Thanks for the update on the status of the fund raising effort and a bit about the spending direction. many outfits ask for money without a hint on what's going on.

Hi

Made a little donation a week ago. Got instant confirmation from Berkeley, but I've no idea if it went to Seti (where it was supposed to go) or ended up in Berkeley general revenue.

I don't so much care about the green star, but it would be nice to know if the wee bit of cash I could afford to give went where it was supposed to.

I checked the donors list and the amount received so far pages but they seem to be frozen on June 3.

Sorry for the bother :)

Generally, the way the script is setup for direct donations to Seti. If the Green Star pops in within a few minutes it is recognized as a donation to Seti (Worked Great). If the star does not appear then there reason for concern. At that point, if you make a note somewhere in the Seti Forums it can be tracked. As Nobody mentioned you should get followup via email and snail mail.

I do know this for fact, I had a situation where the script bombed and I checked the Card Company and saw that the money was designated. It turned out there were issues on Berkeley's Donation Engine that were the problem (which they were not aware of, so they had lost more money than just mine).

All in all, the problem was corrected and my contribution to the computer case that houses Bruno finally made it!

Yes, it took about 1 week for my last donation to appear. I was going to wait until my credit card bill came, but no need.

Does anyone have any info on the "FaceBook" Cause:

LINK

This is a new online community (Facebook)and they have a group dedicated to raising money for SETI.

Legit?

I just want to know before I become too deeply involved with it.

Thanks,

At the moment, people can not look at the link without registration.

As I registered, and then look at the link it is for Seti Institute, Not Seti@home.

So the money raised go to Seti Institutes programs Not Seti@home.

Thanks for looking into that for me.

I looked into setting up a SETI@HOME "cause" with Facebook and it seems that SETI@HOME is not listed with them, only SETI.

As you are strongly involved with fund raising, is this something you are able to look into or can you pass it on to someone who can?

This seems to be a good medium for fundraising and it's a real shame to leave it unused.

The only downside is a loss of 4.5% of the donations for operating costs.

Sorry to see that donations are on the decline again.
I was wondering if a system similar to http://www.boincstats.com would not help.
There could show up a RAD(onation) value (Donation/month) and teams and users would have some additional motivation to donate, climbing up the ladder.
In a later stage this could include several projects which need donations urgently.

This Idea was brought up a few times by some users, had no time in the last months to browse the boards to see how the discussion about it progressed, though. That's why I want to bring the issue up again.

I really appreciate the effort of the team to give out more first hand informations and to communicate with the users, giving some insight. But this should also have a positive effect on the donations received. Unfortunately so far it does not seem to generate the needed effect. Same goes for PR.

Nonetheless I believe that in the long run it's the right way to go and will rise the amount donated. But I guess a donationstats - approach could be even more successfull (depends on the popularity level reched).

It's the "Forbes-list" effect ;)

I still think one of the best ways to raise money is to provide some sort of incentive for it. Face it, some people just won't buck up unless they have something to benefit from it.

I mean, what would be the harm in having something like a separate part of the site that you need to buy a membership for? I'm sure the S@H guys can think up some decent incentives. What about more detailed science stats or access to a special newsletter? Or a "gold members only" message board section (I've seen THIS a lot). Maybe these members get newer work units?

Some may argue that everyone should have access to these things simply for donating CPU time, but the fact remains that this project NEEDS cash, and it's not getting enough from good will alone.

I'm going to go make another donation now. I hope others follow suit. And I hope someone realizes the potential of this "gold membership" idea.

123.45 US Dollars.

I don't know what the current 'bucks' to 'dollars' conversion rate is!

Still wishing upon a star ... [edit]Hey there it is!!!

I just refound the [url=http://store.setiathome-store.com/]SETI store.[/ulr]
They seem to be out of hardware (pens, pointers, etc) which probably have a low profit/donation margin. They do have clothing. I'll get a couple to give to folks who have allowed me to setup BOINC on their machines.
