WOuld have been so much easier if they had just shot him when they found him.

naw, the media might catch that on video. Best to have dropped a grenade belt into his hiding hole.

Two... just to make sure!

Who is responsible for making the trial a farce?
Surely Saddam, his cronies, and his lawyers played a large part in it.

The bigger part was the US

You know what ... ?
Reading the replies in this forum ...
The totally no-boners of replies ... !
It is no doubt that if what you represent here is the mainstream feeling of the US,
that the US stands condemned for what it brought about in Iraq ...
And that it stands condemned for the loss of life there.
Saddam Hussein, tyrant that he was and mass murderer that he was, never in his wildest dreams
Murdered and killed as many Iraqis as America has done in the last 3 years.

600,000 dead - you guys ought to hang your collective heads in shame ... !!!
Remember ... this guy Saddam Hussein was YOUR puppet at one time.
YOU armed him. YOU gave him the wherewithal to BE the tyrant he always was.

You Americans have a lot to answer for. So don't come the "Holier than thou" with me ...
You guys creep along the ground with the other snakes that twist and turn to try enforce your
policies on other Nations.
None of you is better than Saddam Hussein if that is your view.
Go ahead and gloat. You have got your show trial. You have your verdict.
But your hands are yet again covered in blood.
Why do you lot never learn that you care not qualified to dabble in World politics?
Just keep the Hell out, I say ...

Wrong.
The posters on this board are also diverse, like the nation itself.
Keep trying to guess our thoughts and feelings from our posts and keep putting more words in our mouths.
Capitalize on this good fortune, one word can bring you round ... changes.

You've also got to remember that we (US nationals) have lost our oversight powers and are being lied to.

Don't forget that after burning books, killing students, outlawing religions and languages, and making a grand speech, all dictators put their "enemies" on (rushed) trials. That's why I see this trial as a circus - There wasn't any legitimacy. IMO it should've been in The Hague, without Iraqi or American prosecutors.

It's not just the US - it's the Brits as well. And we have feelings also.

Hey, fellah ... I am NOT putting words in your mouth ...
YOU, collectively, do it every time you open your mouth/s ...

WHY is it ... that every time I read a post here from an American ... I can pick IMMEDIATELY if he is a Republican or Democrat?
It goes beyond 'sensing'. You do not need a 'diviner's rod'. You guys are so totally predictable, it is almost laughable!
I am as right wing as they come. I should be backing Bush to the hilt like you lemmings do ... . But I am intensely against this illiterate uncommunicative drone - that it makes me shudder that such a moral degenerate has been able to become President of the United States ... I might say, a Country that I have long loved and admired.
I now find that that admiration has, in the short space of one Presidential tenure, been eroded to below safety levels. If my brake-pads were as low as my respect for the Presidency ... and the American idiots that put THIS idiot back in the White House ... then I would just park my car at the side of the road and walk.

The fact that Saddam Hussein has been alive and in Baghdad all this time that has not permitted Iraq to settle down to democracy. Why oh why did they keep him in Iraq all this time, and not out of the way in The Hague, Guantanamo, or someplace?

What has happened to Tariq Aziz?

Yeah, that's what I would like to know.

He's probably out somewhere issuing press releases stating that Saddam, in fact, has not been sentenced death, let alone ever been caught!

No that would be Bagdad Bob!

EXACTLY what I said in the first place ...
Why did some guy not put a bullet in him - for whatever reason - a long time ago ...
and Guantanamo for the rest of his life would have to be an option.
This way, there will be wholesale carnage in Iraq!
Well done America ... yet again another International cock-up

I don't agree.

There has been NO Al-Quaeda activity in Irak under Saddam.
He cracked down on islamists and all separatists with brutal force.

I guess the situation is more similar to , but worse than Yugoslavia after Tito's fall.

Add a healthy dose of anti-americanism to the mix, and disaster unfolds.

Correct! Saddam might've been a "bad guy", but he's not stupid. The US would've blasted the place instantly if UBL was in town...

He cracked down on islamists and all separatists with brutal force.
Like all dictators do.

Not really - Recall that the ex-Yugoslavia was a free-for-all land-grab with little to no oil and no international involvement whatsoever ('cept for MSF). Here, there's an "oversight" power (Uncle Sam) that's forcing everyone to live together in one Iraq, like it or not.

How long did it take for Bosnia Herzogovina, Croatia, Serbia, Albania, and all the former Yugoslav states to sign peace treaties? And the borders finalized. Maybe we should've just let Iraq run its course on their own once we got Saddam into custody, waited 20 years, and the whole US-intervention mess could've been avoided.
