Message 20225 - Posted: 31 Aug 2004, 3:38:36 UTC

Running on a Mobile Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 - M CPU 1.80GHz Pentium
running Microsoft Windows XP Professional Edition, Service Pack 1, (05.01.2600.00)

I downloaded Boinc GUI client last Friday, and installed it. BOINC downloaded initial work, then sat in the system tray. I noticed today that it has disappeared from the system tray. If I start it, it appears in the system tray for a short time, then disappears.

In the BOINC program directory, file stdout.txt reads:
2004-08-31 15:12:37 [---] Starting BOINC client version 3.20 for windows_intelx86
2004-08-31 15:12:37 [SETI@home] Project prefs: using your defaults
2004-08-31 15:12:37 [SETI@home] Host ID is 147198
2004-08-31 15:12:37 [---] General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 2004-08-26 08:08:32)
2004-08-31 15:12:37 [---] General prefs: using your defaults
2004-08-31 15:12:37 [SETI@home] Resuming computation for result 09au03aa.18750.5361.29822.228_6 using setiathome version 3.08
2004-08-31 15:12:39 [SETI@home] Started upload of 09au03aa.18750.5361.29822.207_6_0

And stderr.txt reads:

***UNHANDLED EXCEPTION****
Reason: Access Violation (0xc0000005) at address 0x00401D98 write attempt to address 0x73614220

1: 08/31/04 15:12:40

So it is crashing just after starting/trying to upload a result. Because there is no work, the seti process is not running.

You are still running v3.20 of the client.
There has been a upgrade to v4.05 and the 3.20 client will not
communicate with the 4.05 client. You can get the new client from

http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/download.php

Tim

if your stdout.txt is actualized, make sure you are running lastest 4.05 boinc

having this also under XP and 4.05, resetting the project helped in my case.

==> execute the drwtsn32.exe. this one is included with XP. from there you get closer *technial* information.

client 4.05:
you can get it from http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc

Just my luck. I must have downloaded the software just before the new version was released. I will try to get the new version
