Due to more downtime at Berkeley I have several PCs awaiting workunits. I have several more PCs with "spare" workunits, but there doesn't seem to be any way to transfer them, until Berkeley is back up and running :-( ---------------------- Keef - Dartford Kent UK RIP Seti Classic ============= |

Due to more downtime at Berkeley I have several PCs awaiting workunits. I have several more PCs with "spare" workunits, but there doesn't seem to be any way to transfer them, until Berkeley is back up and running :-( You can still upload finished results and report them. Uploading happens in 2 steps. 1. The result is uploaded 2. The result is reported. Reporting generally takes place when Boinc contacts the server based on your "connect to" settings. If because of no new work, your messages show a deferred status, you can manually report work by selecting SETI@home in the Projects tab and pressing update. As of now, the only problem at Berkeley is that no new work is being generated , so you will not get new work. |

You can still upload finished results and report them. Yes, sorry; my post was badly worded :-( I didn't mean I had units waiting to be reported, but units waiting to be processed. i.e. I would like to process the "spare" units on my PCs awaiting units. ---------------------- Keef - Dartford Kent UK RIP Seti Classic ============= |

You can still upload finished results and report them. The results have to be crunched by the PC that downloaded them in the first place. So unfortunately, you cannot take "spare units" from one PC and crunch them on another. There are people who download units from an Internet-connected PC and crunch them on another pc that doesn't have a net connection. However that is a complex process and involves maintaining identical BOINC folders on both PC's. My advice would be to have patience and wait for SETI staff to fix the server(hopefully by monday). In the meantime, you could sign up for other projects, which is the recommended by SETI@Home themselves. That is the whole philosophy, so to say, behind BOINC. |

You can still upload finished results and report them. This is a process that Berkeley has heard of users ask ever since Boinc started. They will work on it, eventually. Right now there are bigger issues, as evidenced by the current issues. They are also trying to find ways to stop people coming to Boinc, across all projects, and then leaving before they finish even one unit. The issues with local, or other types of 'caches' seem minor by comparison. There was a survey put out a month or so ago, the responses were helpful, but there were not very many, if any, comments about the 'caching of units for multiple machines' among the responses. |

You can still upload finished results and report them. Berkeley is not planning on allowing the transfer of results from one machine to another. This was used as part of a technique for cheating in Classic, and therefore is extremely unlikely to be allowed in BOINC. BOINC WIKI |

Berkeley is not planning on allowing the transfer of results from one machine to another. This was used as part of a technique for cheating in Classic, and therefore is extremely unlikely to be allowed in BOINC. Wouldn't it just be easier to put an electronic tag in each unit and only that user be able to return that unit one time? I understand project accountability and that there are project security issues involved, but isn't there a viable work around? I mean we are doing a group consensus before granting any credits. Wouldn't that remove alot of the problems all by itself? |

"I have been a SETI@home subscriber since 1999 but there is no way I can transer my work units to BOINC. Can some one help me please?" What workunits are you referring to? Old SETI Classic workunits? The old SETI server has been closed down. Any outstanding results can be deleted. The old server software doesn't exist anymore, so they cannot use those old results. If you want to add your SETI Classic stats to your new BOINC account, please click here and use the last option. Please note that your old WUs will be a separate stat from the work you do in BOINC. |
