Hello Fellow Crunchers, Today I have bought a totaly new PC with the AMD Athlon 64Bit processor, my question is as follows, am I right to think that I can copy the Boinc directory with Seti and Climate prediction from my old PC and put them on my new machine and install then the Boinc manager that it will work then where it has stopped on the old one ????, I hope that somebody can tell me if it will work that way. |

Hello Fellow Crunchers, I would install boinc on the new computer then shutdown boinc then copy the contents of the boinc directory from the old comp to the new one then restart boinc. now this should work but im not sure because seti wants the work returned from the same computer that downloaded it and may reject them. actually Id run both computers. |

Hello Fellow Crunchers, To the best of my knowledge, no, this will not work, simply because the work units are sent to an individual host. Such as, the SETI servers know which computer they sent the work unit to, and it needs to be sent back to the SETI servers from that same computer. I believe all BOINC projects are this way, but someone will correct me if I am wrong. As James Nelson said, run both of them. The more crunching power you give, the more results get sent in, and the more credit you'll recieve. :-) Jeremy |

Hello Fellow Crunchers, I did a bit of an upgrade and a format. When I got up and running I installed Boinc shut it down and copied my old Boinc folder on top of it and was right where I left off with same units....different machine...at least Motherboard, Memory and Hard Drives... Seems I had to merge the machine.... Official Abuser of Boinc Buttons... And no good credit hound! |

Hello Fellow Crunchers, If you rename your new computer the same as the old one you shouldn't have a problem. That's what I did. I've reinstalled XP a couple of times, just recently last week and with the same name as before and put all the files back on with no problem. What I did is suspend all activity and then when I got XP back on, I reistalled BOINC, without an active internet conection, the put the old files back on and then started them back again without any problem. Hello Fellow Crunchers, > I would run both computers. New BOINC on new compooter. Optimize. Leave old on old computer. Optimize. Crunch away. |

NOT recommended but works fine. |
