I was in St Thomas USVI working for myself as an Electrician in a customers bedroom and we all just sat there numb. I was in 1st grade, we were all watching it on TV, cause it was such a big deal. We all sat in silence, then the school let us all out early for the day. Very sad day indeed. |

I was in St Thomas USVI working for myself as an Electrician in a customers bedroom and we all just sat there numb. I think I still have some news papers from then in my storage. My mom always buys the paper when something big happens like that. Got quite a few of them from 9-11-01 as well. |

I was making solid rocket propellent and filling it in to a 36" wide 18' long Stonechat rocket. We made sure the ultrasonic and X-ray testing of the propellent case bonding was to specification, or similar things to the O-ring failure would occur. The Stonechat was the main stage in an Intercontinental missile testing rocket to calibrate ICMB detection radars. It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |

I was in my apartment on Federal Blvd. In Denver, Co and was watching the launch on T.V. I'll never forget the look on Ronnie and Nancy's face. They were dumbfounded and confused. It was a very sad day for everyone. |

I was in Science class in my junior year of High School. That was back when the networks still thought the Space Shuttle launches were worth covering. I can remember sitting there just dumbfounded at what we had just seen. I also remember a couple of people getting suspended from school for cracking jokes about it. The thing is..later on in life I realized that in the face of something that serious, some people's only defense from the enormity of the event, is humor. No matter how ill timed it may be. It happened to me on 9-11. My brother and I were watching the coverage and the only thing that kept both of us from completely breaking down was to find humor around us. Not about the attack, but from something in our immediate vicinity. Some people don't understand it, and I am sure that some of you all may think it was simply callousness on our part, but in the face of an event of the magnitude of the Challenger explosion or the 9-11 attacks, many people will use whatever means they have to keep from having their sanity slip a notch. I had several classes at Diablo Valley College, (a Junior College), in Pleasant Hill, California... I remember being SOOOO excited that the launch was going on; I got up early, I watched what I could, then went to classes... NOT one word was mentioned in ANY of my classes at the moment the disaster happened! I therefore completed my normal day at College. Still excited that I would get to see the "reruns" of the launch on the news; I hurried home, turned on the TV, then dropped my books - ONLY to hear "The space shuttle has exploded..." I WAS DEVISTATED! TimeLord04 Have TARDIS, will travel... Come along K-9! Join Calm Chaos |
