Message 19539 - Posted: 30 Aug 2004, 0:25:05 UTC

Since the Boinc project launched, i was exited, untill the continuous problems.
I could have lived with the continuous problems, but the info flow was poor at best, so i never knew WTF.

Then lately i have a plethora of info, most of which is quite useless to me or plain false.
Then i get more info, daily, for a month, and lo and behold:
nothing holds true of that info.

I mean, really... If you have a problem, just say it's fixed when it's fixed...

Anyways, due to the "recent" upgrade that is now available,
but still quite hard to get,
i decided to ease the pain on the servers.

Goodbye.

Sorry To See you go,
However if you are one of those that strictly works on projects, or lives a life of nothing but perfection, then I guess you are really through. Hope you have happy days in your perfect world!
I know you will be busy, because "Walking On Water" could be very tiresome.

Regards,

Rocky

Seti Classic had its growing pains also. With BOINC we can crunch different projects using the same client.

That is cool.

I was wondering why this site was working so slowly. Now I know. IM DOWNLOADING MORE WUs TO CRUNCH! YEAH!!!!

Wait, that's not why I'm posting this....

What is it with the people doing this distributed computing. Are you all so callous that all you can do is SLAM the door behind someone when they get so frustrated they quit the project? I tell you, I have been close to leaving myself but not because of the problems with the project. I'm tired of seeing you people berrate others needlessly. I'm just waiting for the day when one of you decide to call it quits. I'm going to be there to watch the rest slam the door on you. Me slam the door.... I don't think so! I won't stoop so low! I have tried to encourage those who quit to be patient. "it can only get better" is what I say all the time. Just check my signature tag.... And, it has! Grow up people!!! L8R....

My issue is not that people want to leave because they are frustrated with the project. My issue is with the people (not all mind you) that find it necessary to berrate these people instead of trying to convince them that things will get better. And, by the first sentence in you comments above, you seem to be one of them. There's nothing wrong with showing some compassion toward those who want to leave. And, I'll except you appology any time. L8R....

I see that you edited your post so that it doesn't play on my first name. Still waiting for that appology.... If you have read post #19655 you will see what I was talking about having a little compassion. L8R....

Why, to make a statement, naturally.
Oh, and just because i've left the project doesn't mean i've left the forum, does it?
I'm just not crunching for Seti no more.
Nor will i, not untill all the flaws have been corrected.
And no, i'm not referring to client flaws only.

@ Eugene:
I'm in awe before you. Really.
In a world of degenerate ignoramuses, i see Seti@Home has found some intelligent life ;)

Hey Malevolent,

It can be trying at times with this new project. If you get into the mood to try it again here is the address for the BOINC software that you need.(4.05)

http://setiboincdata.ssl.berkeley.edu/boinc_alpha/download.php

You will then need to attach to the SETI project with the address and password that they send you in an email.

The servers are handing out work at the moment so now is a good time to start or give it another try.

Running SETI on BOINC has been a wild ride. Sort of like a roller coaster. One minute you are up the next you are down.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

@ K3UZZ:

Thank you for your kind words, but the project state in itself isn't my main concern,
and as far as "coming to my senses" goes, i believe i've done that already?
None of you know me, so that was a fair assumption, but i never do anything without thinking about it first.
Too old for irrational behaviour ;)

@ StokeyBob:

I'm intrigued, but will pass, for now anyway.
And as said before, the state of the client is not the whole reason for my departure.

@ K3UZZ:

1)What makes you think that the E.T. is a "he" ?
2)I'm tempted to "stay with the program" ,
but the way it is currently being handled makes it most impossible.

> Goodbye.

No problem.

Turn-over is normal in distributed computing.

Turn-over it's implicit in project, as SETI@home,
that will last for the next centuries.

"A winner always finds a road,
a loser always finds an excuse."
Hermann Hesse

"And so my fellow SETIzens,
ask not what your SETI@home can do for you,
ask what you can do for your SETI@home."
paraphrasing John F. Kennedy

@ K3UZZ:

In my language it's neutral: only one word for she, he or it.

Anyways, you should be a diplomat...

"So stay with the program. You have nothing to lose except all of this agravation, eh?"

Good advice... is the worst vice?

But really, you are right. However, here are some of the main pissmeoffs that launched this topic:
-Stating deadlines one after another and not one holding.
-Lack of interest towards the user.
-Lack of information - fixed about a mont ago.
-Lack of accurate information
-Lack of WU's for the last 2 months
-Lack of credit for those WU's
