Downloading the code just in time is similar to lazy evaluation. Don't do it unless you have to, you might not ever need all of the code modules. Say there are two different applications, one of which your computer doesn't qualify to run, why ever download that code. Or you attach today, download a type 1 WU, and tomorrow the code is updated. Why should you have bothered using the bandwith to download the type 2 crunch code. This situation can happen in Predictor now, and S@H in the future. |

Cause I'm joined with the SETI portion of BOINC. So, I'll be crunching SETI WU's, big ole suprise. That and one of the two files is like 4.8 megabytes big and it keeps garbage / bad urling all day. If it could be downloaded successfully after resets (when the process messes up like it has for me at least 4 times today so far), without having to wait for the scheduler to deign to send a workunit the hosts way, then everything would be hunky dory a heck of a lot quicker. Until they can test things better or want to shut down this public project and go back to ALPHA, maybe they can throw in a few workarounds to help out. Doing what I propose couldn't hurt anything could it? Thats all I'm saying. I know they finally decided to do the transition on a Sunday, and its only been 7 hours since they let it loose intially, and I shouldn't be quick to anger, but I just got a little frustrated with the one problem after another routine around here. My bad. |
