I fail to see how Recent Average Credit, being an average has anything to do with a program that "sucks".

Seeing that you're from Team MENSA, I should hope you realize what the word average means. If you don't contribute, that's equivalent to adding zeros to the overall score, meaning the average goes down.

Have a nice vacation!

I don't know where you think that boinc sucks because you don't do your part. Your RAC is "Recent Average Credit". Check your dictionary for the meaning of "Recent" and "Average". Or maybe I should say to check a "real" dictionary, since yours seems to be different than everyone elses.

Credits-A stupid conception to appeal to people's egos

In the end its caused more trouble and toil than entertainment, too many people take it seriously, big fights, worthless fights, cheating accusations...ridiculous...

You should be worried about the lack of science you'll be missing out on...

*Edit...I don't mean to rip apart credits, just trying to make a sarcastic point ;)

Maybe that it helps in Dutch.

Simpel.

Clicking the red x leads to an error message, unfortunately.

Still, since all this thread serves to do is spew invective for imagined bovine droppings, please remove it. I find it rather intellectually offensive ;o)

RAC, by itself, really means nothing, as kind of alluded to, by the original poster. You go on vacation for a couple weeks, and RAC plunges. That's what RAC should do! (you have no new credit, and your average goes down).

However, "total cedit" will only rise over time if you keep crunching. It wont fall.

Once the vacation is over, RAC will however again rise, and within a couple weeks, will be back to what it was before the the vacation.

As someone else said "it's the odemeter that's important in the long run, and not the speedometer'.

Total Credits is the real guage, and with Boinc, it's really "total credits for ALL projects" that shows what you are crunching.

Ya know, if we stopped posting in this thread and let it drift away it would just disappear into the small percentage of people who complain for no logical explanation whatsoever...

I'm going to stop working for a while and while I'm sitting around having fun my bank account balance will continue to drop. That will prove my point that banks and work suck.

Haha,
That's probably what this guy's thinking. He's probably taking a paid vacation and since his income isn't dropping for that week he thinks his RAC shouldn't drop either!

He probably doesn't own a car anymore, he got rid of it because the speedometer kept going to zero when he stopped at red lights.

Yes, your RAC will drop, but that's a necessary evil in order to keep things accurate. One of my computers has been down for three weeks and its RAC has dropped to about 1/8 of what it was when it was crunching. So your RAC will drop to about 1/4 of its current value in two weeks, but it will quickly approach what it is now after you resume crunching. Yes, I surely wouldn't want my speedometer to register anything except zero when I'm stopped. I wouldn't dream of leaving the computers on when I'm gone (except for a few minutes) for fear of burning down my house and endangering the neighbors. Also just one bad event would stop crunching until I came back such as a half-second blackout, communication problem or temporary Berkeley shutdown.

Actually... the only point it proves is that people give too much importance to RAC.
The measure of the work you've done is the other number, credits.
RAC changes all the time and only shows a latest average.
In my opinion it's meaningless unless you want to find meaning in the depths of the futile. ;)

Regards.

OMG, this is hilarious. :) I had no idea that we were in competition for the highest ranking. This whole time I thought it was for a bunch of people to reach a common goal. I am so glad I don't belong to a team, that way I don't have anything to prove to anyone else or show justification for my time. LOL Just give me WU, and I'll make sure they're crunched.

I think if a person clicks on the "Reply to this post" link at the bottom of each post, then it will automatically quote (like I did with yours).

I agree, it would be nice to see who is responding to who. Either start a new conversation (thread) or quote who/what a person is replying to. Life would be so much easier than trying to decipher a thread.

Happy crunching...

Yes but if you don't quote thre's no way to know who someone is talking to, unless you've been following the entire thread.
And even with quotes, it's easy to get lost in a long thread. Some boards add the name of the person to a quote, like "xxx said: ....", etc. That's neat too.

Anyway, I didn't know if you were replying to me when you said:
OMG, this is hilarious. :) I had no idea that we were in competition for the highest ranking.

That's why I posted my wishful thinking. :p
