Illegal Immigration seems to be the topic Du Jour on all the talk radio shows these days. I would like to find out what people who DON'T get paid for talking think.

Is it as big a problem as some are making it out to be? Are our borders secure enough?

Should we just do our best to close the borders completely?

Should we allow the ones who are already here to become citizens automatically?

I want to try to keep things ( relatively ) calm in this thread. Illegal Immigration seems to be quite a " hot button " issue, but we need to try to keep things civilized.

Here is something I just remembered...

My ex-girlfriend's ex-husband was in one of the Military branches. She told me that in one of the places he was stationed in Texas, she could walk down to the river that formed part of the U.S./Mexico border.

Across this border someone had erected a rope bridge to make it safer for the illegals coming across the border when the river was at a higher than normal level.

Gotta love THAT border Security.

Here's what I'd do.

1. Build a wall across the whole border

2. Drastically increase border personnel

3. Only grant any new guest worker visas when someone applies from their HOME country. If you're in the U.S. illegally, no permit.

4. Empower local law enforcement to detain illegals.

Here's what I'd do.

This isn't a bad idea. But what are you going to build a wall with that they couldn't get through, over, or under?

2. Drastically increase border personnel

This is something thast we definitely need to do anyway. I just heard something on the show previous to C2C about the fact that there is a law that states, local Governments can deputize local law enforcement as Border patrol agents. Something to that immediate effect anyway.

3. Only grant any new guest worker visas when someone applies from their HOME country. If you're in the U.S. illegally, no permit.

The major problem ( as I see it ) is the ease of availability of false documents. ID...SSN...even birth certificates can be had relatively cheap. A full set of documents can be had for around 200 dollars.

What do we do about the ones that are already HERE Illegally?

4. Empower local law enforcement to detain illegals.

Refer to number 2. A lot of local governments have been crying that their " hands are tied " when it comes to enforcing the borders. That law pretty much takes that argument out of the equation.

So? What are we doing about them NOW ? With my plan it is at least some incentive to go home AND most importantly it discourages new illegals from rushing en masse to the border in hope of getting 'amnesty'. Over time, as illegal occupation, I mean IMMIGRATION, wanes the border patrol will continue to do what it does NOW and conduct standard raids, etc.

My final solution is to send Knightmate to the border to give everyone the 'evil eye'. That would be a big help. lol

A 'fence' along the border does not need to mean just a wall or two. Although it would never be implemented, the most effective form of fence would be simple signs every hundred feet or so:

Comenzaremos a matar a cualquier persona que cruce esta frontera en 30 días.

And dutifully replace the signs with ones that count down 29, 28, 27, etc. each day.

When you get down to zero, however, you'd have to actually mean it.

What about building a bloody great trench and letting the Pacific and Atlantic met a little closer to the USoA? You could call it the American Straights. Or the United Straights of America or..

We have the Southern Ocean and that doesn't stop illegal immigration. Improve the intelligence, monitoring and policing.

That wall thing didn't work in China, twice! Didn't work in Europe. Won't work in the Middle East either.
