I have already successfully installed BOINC on two of my XP machines but when I ran the setup executable on my Win2000 machine I got the following error message:-
Setup.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.You will need to restart the program.An error log is being created.

It late at night here but I can't find any log file and I get the same error everytime I run boinc_3.19_windows_intelx86.exe. I'm running as administrator and have disabled my antivirus and firewalls just in case but get the same message each time - any suggestions, apart from getting a good night's sleep!

Check your Event Viewer (Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer) if there's any mention of the exact error in there.

Else the log that's spoken of will be in Dr Watson.
Start->Run, type in msinfo32 {hit Enter}
Tools, Windows, Dr Watson.

Thanks , I'd already looked in the event viewer, but hadn't thought of DrWatson (did say it was late!). There is an entry in the DrWatson log but it doesn't mean much to me, apart from confirming that setup.exe had some kind of access violation. If I post it is anyone able to interpret?

The developers do read these boards, so yes, do post the Dr. Watson log. It may be decipherable by them.

Just tried it again following a clean boot with the same results so the DrWatson log extract is attached at the bootom in case anyone can help.

I tried copying my new SETI_BOINC directory from one of my XP machines to my Win2000 machine and running the executable, and this seemed to work. I have currently stopped it and gone back to running my old SETI command line prog until(if) I get confirmation that the copied BOINC should run OK.
