Bottom line.. BOINC is FAR too confusing for the average joe. I have a post-graduate degree and am AT LEAST not a total lunkhead... but here's what I do know.

Seti@Home classic worked like a charm all the time. Never had one hiccup or problem.

BOINC in nothing BUT problems and confusion.

Message boards posts and front page updates are written in a language I do not understand.

The past three days have erased 100% of the enthusiasm I once felt for this project.

Going to dedicate my free processor time to someone else people. I'll check back with you in a couple of months.

Perhaps the application will work by that point.

I'm not holding my breath.

"Seti@Home classic worked like a charm all the time. Never had one hiccup or problem."
____________

As I understand it, there were considerable problems at startup. (Do I need to point out that this is were BOINC is right now?)

____________
"BOINC in nothing BUT problems and confusion."
____________

Actually, BOINC works quite well. It's the support infrastructure that is having issues.

____________

What language do you speak? There is most likely a forum goer that could translate.

PKRipp,

I understand most of the postings, but they are so glib and out of date it is almost not worth reading them. Today's posting about being down an hour, then moving to a new version is a good example. They have been down the entire day and no updated information.

Why the people running this project at Berkeley don't manage this project so that volunteer users are kept informed is either sheer ignorance or total arrogance. Neither situation is acceptable.

If you are a US citizen and pay taxes, this project is paid in part by a $911,264 grant from the NSF.

Here is some interesting reading:
