Message 440810 - Posted: 20 Oct 2006, 21:24:20 UTC - in response to Message 440804.

Ok. I made the change suggested.

Ummm...TL.....if they don't already HAVE a translator....how the hell would they be able to read the rules and know what that link is for???

Boss, your being logical again! Shame, Shame. lol

If they don't have a Translator; they are forced to get a "X"-Language to English Dictionary anyway, as the requirement of Rule 11 needs to be understood. Providing the link to Babel Fish makes this an easier and faster process.

;-D

If they already have the " X " language translator...then they should be able to read the rules. The rule isn't that difficult to figure out. :-)

'
Yes, but Babel Fish makes the Translation Process faster and more efficient... An "X"-Language to English Dictionary only allows you to look up one word at a time... With Babel Fish; someone could just highlight all the rules, copy them, paste them into Babel Fish and hit "Translate."

;-D

Maybe the fix for this is to have an already translated document for the most common languages within the welcome thread that has the title in that language for them to view. TL start translating and we'll get the thread arranged when Buga gets back.

Dude. You are completely missing my point here.

For them to know about the forums, they would need to have a translator program installed anyway.

How many people, besides YOU, do you know that would sit there and translate each and every word one at a time???

You also are missing my point: "Convenience and simplicity" Having the link readily available means that they won't even have to launch their own Translator Program... If they even have one...

@ Bird-Dog

Before we were so rudely cutoff from the forum your request to be accepted to the DWW group (I gotta stop calling it mine btw), was successful but when I made the change you were still imported as a mod to the thread. So it will have to wait until Buga returns and can fix my account. Until then the thread is open for all to visit and vote in the poll. Sorry man, we'll get it fixed.

I got an e-mail telling me I had been added to the DWW group, I went over found it and clicked join then got another e-mail telling me my request had been approved. I went back to the forum but it was down. All rather confusing. Don`t know what I`ve been added to or approved of.

Look. If they don't have their translator running, they aren't going to even KNOW about the forums unless they happen to run across them while surfing.

You are all about " convienience and simplicity " but you sem to want to make THIS particular thing complicated. Simple solution is this...anyone who tries to register would HAVE to have their translator running in the first place to be ABLE to register. Therefore, there is no real reason to have to link one for them.

Chief, that's why you buy a USB Hub. It expands the one port to 4 or 8 depending on the model. Then you buy the USB Keyboard. In fact, you can also get a Laptop Fan System that the laptop sits on; this unit also has a built in 4-Port USB Expansion HUB. So, you plug the Fan System into your one USB Port, rest your computer on top of it, (keeps the laptop cool), and then you still have 4-Ports available on the fan system. Then you get your keyboard...

;-D

Here you go KM, theKensinton Keyboard in a Box

$10 at CompUSA and has an extra USB port built in. Of course, my local store doesn't have any. :(

Didn't see any $5 USB keyboards in any of the usual places online, DWW must have gotten a deal.

Yes, it was a suggestion. But when I didn't go with the suggestion, you went Type A on me...lol

I do see how it would be an advantage to have things in multiple languages, but there are too many languages to do that effectively.

Linking a translator is kinda redundant when to even read the forums and rules in the first place, a person who doesn't speak English would have to translate them. They aren't going to sit there with an Whatever to English dictionary and translate every word until they get to the rule that has that link. That simply will not happen. Not too many people have that kind of patience.

Instead of posting the link in Rule 11....we will just put it right at the top of the posting rules. Although even THAT may be redundant considering that the link will be in English.

Chief,

I found you a good USB Multi-Port Hub pretty inexpensive.

Best Buy Link.

See what you think.

Good call TL. Except for one problem. This laptop is so old that it doesn't have a 2.0 port. It's running on the older version. I wonder if it would still work.

If the Targus Hub is backward compatible; then it will work. However; that would mean that ALL of the expansion ports would be locked in at 1.0 USB...

You could call Best Buy, (or your local computer store), and ask them about USB Hubs and backward compatibility...

Good luck,

I've never seen one that wasn't backward compatible, but never say never.
