Message 330028 - Posted: 7 Jun 2006, 20:00:38 UTC

I don't normally watch my machines, but I guess I need to start. It appears that I have not received any SETI work since the middle of May. The following messages seem to be common on all affected.

6/7/2006 11:14:24 AM|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi
6/7/2006 11:14:24 AM|SETI@home|Reason: To fetch work
6/7/2006 11:14:24 AM|SETI@home|Requesting 864000 seconds of new work
6/7/2006 11:14:29 AM|SETI@home|Scheduler request succeeded
6/7/2006 11:14:29 AM|SETI@home|Message from server: No work sent
6/7/2006 11:14:29 AM|SETI@home|No work from project
6/7/2006 11:14:29 AM|SETI@home|Deferring scheduler requests for 2 hours, 54 minutes and 56 seconds

Short of re-installing (and I'm not even sure that will fix this), what can be done to get them going again?

If you're using an "app_info.xml" file to run optimized software, just delete this file.
This will enable BOIC to download the latest seti version (5.15).

Work for the old (4.x) version has run out.

Regards Hans

P.S: Whooops, I said "BOIC" :o)

Also make sure you're running a version of BOINC Client that is at least 5.2.6.

You don't need to watch the project if you run the standard setup.

If you run optimized apps you do have to keep an eye on things.

That fixed it, thank you.

Note, that the new SETI@home Enhanced will take longer to process each work unit, as it does far more analysis than previous versions (ie, digs deeper into the data).

One of my machines has just managed to get some units , even though the stats page shows all four sah_assimilators are not running.

My other machines arn't so luck and they have been empty since last night.

I have upped the cache from the 0.1 day default to 1 day now to hopefully get around this in the future

Same problem here... perhaps it will worsen today, as maintenance is due (Wednesday) this afternoon...

Yes, I am having the same issue, at least for the last 24 hours or more. I cycled all my machines and network components but this didn't correct the issue. I'm running BOINC 5.4.11. I see that the sah_assimilators on kryten are all not running. I wonder if this is part of the issue. I hope this is resolved soon.......my machines are hungry.

From the frontpage:

January 15, 2007
We are experiencing a database problem that is leading to erratic work distribution. We will run diagnostics and rebuild the affected tables(s) tomorrow.

This is probably the problem.........hope it's not too serious.

Running out of WU's here, it's getting a bit painfull.
Having both SETI and Einstein in trouble means I will be running out of work in 1 day, 1 machine has already run dry, to bad.

Crunch on (as long as your cache lasts).

I'm not sure what the problem is; but I'm pretty sure that the assimilators bein' offline has nothing to do with it, as they (the assimilators, that is) only work on processed, validated results - after the computation on member's computers - and that only happens after you (or your computer for you) upload(s) the data back to Berkeley.

The simple solution is to keep a cache of several days worth of work - I keep mine set to 4.5 days, unless I'm goin' away from home for a couple of days, when I up it to 9.5...

I have not been able to download any new work since yesterday as well.

I setup the clients to NOT cache in advance WUs. (Or at least not more than 1 in advance) So my computers I guess are getting a cool down break.
