I'm a Mac newbie (I'm a PC guy mostly) but I managed to get the BOINC CLI installed and running well on an Emac, running OS X. Problem is this, none of the CLI commands work! I've tried them all, and they don't seem to be recognized. I can't pull up the help list, I can't get it to display the version number, I can't reset the project, or anything like that. Am I missing something simple?

I had problems getting it to work, too. First, when you download boinc, you will see that there is a .gz at the end of the file. When you go to the downloads folder (or where ever you have downloaded the file) you will see that .gz is not there. The system decompressed the file automatically.

Now in the global Applications folder create a new folder called "setiathome-BOINC", without the quotes. Move the application "boinc_3.20_powerpc-apple-darwin" into that folder.

Now open Terminal (in Utilities folder)
Sometimes the application may not have the correct permissions. In that case start a Terminal shell and type:

chmod +x /Applications/setiathome-BOINC/boinc_3.20_powerpc-apple-darwin

and hit Return.

Now type in the following commands:
cd /Applications/setiathome-BOINC
and hit return.

./boinc_3.20_powerpc-apple-darwin
and hit return.

You'll see some interesting information. Then respond to the program's questions. You'll need your SETI@home URL and account ID.

I got the program working fine, it's been crunching for weeks, it just doesn't repsond to any commands. Will this solve that?

There seems to be some confusion here...

The problem is not in getting the program to work, the program starts up and crunches just fine, the problem is that it doesn't recognize any commands given,

e.g. -help, -attach_project, -detach_project etc.

It just carries on doing what it is doing (crunching)

I am having the exact same problem here,
Powerbook G4, 1.33
1GB RAM,
Boinc 4.13(Team MacNN special compile)
Seti, Climate and Predictor running (trying to detach predictor but CAN'T!)

Did you type in [Control-C] before trying to enter a new command? Here's an example of me asking for the -help info without doing a Control-C first:

1wv6_100110161 - PH 2 TS 192061 - 12/01/1837 06:30 - H:M:S=1028:37:24 AVG= 8.21 DLT= 3.80
./boinc* -help
1wv6_100110161 - PH 2 TS 192062 - 12/01/1837 07:00 - H:M:S=1028:37:56 AVG= 8.21 DLT=32.28
1wv6_100110161 - PH 2 TS 192064 - 12/01/1837 08:00 - H:M:S=1028:38:03 AVG= 8.21 DLT= 3.29

As you can see, Terminal totally ignored me. If I had typed a Control-C first, this is what happens:

1wv6_100110161 - PH 2 TS 192097 - 13/01/1837 00:30 - H:M:S=1028:42:14 AVG= 8.21 DLT= 4.09

Hope this helps you.

You could always use SETI Control and then you wouldn't have to use the command line at all. It also shows you the progress and statistics of your current work unit.

SETI Control can be found at: http://homepage.mac.com/delaneyrm/SETIControl.html

Hope this helps
