It looks as this is going to have to wait until Friday morning PDT.

For those who have not yet experienced a major version upgrade, what will hapen is this.

The project will be brought down while the server-side binaries are upgraded. Between now and then you can let your caches drain by setting your preferences to minimum of 0 days and maximum of 0 days. Then update the project to pull down the new perferences.

When the server comes back online it'll have the new 4.x clients. When you install it, it'll rebenchmark your machine and dump any workunits that remain.

Other than that, it'll look just like the 3.x client.

Thanks Rom for the heads up-
Are 3x WU's already cached worth crunching or are they to be trashed when the system goes 4x?

They will be trashed. With the new client on, as soon as it starts up it will reset each and every project that still runs on the 3.xx client.

So do watch out about the Predictor units you still have. If they haven't ran their full run yet and haven't been and upload and reported, you will lose them all!!

What if we want to just run out the BOINC Seti WU's we already have in our Cache instead of installing the New 4.X Client.

Will we be able to do that & will we be able to Upload them & will we get Credit for them...???

I personally would just as soon wait a few days before installing the 4.X Client for Seti & see what happens first. To see if there is any problems & if work is going to be available. I have enough work to last me for awhile so I don't need to be in any hurry for the new client right now...

I do have it installed on 1 Computer that I'm running CPDN with and it seems ok for that Project but you never know how it will be here at the Seti Site until it runs a few days...IMO

PB, as far as I know, that shouldn't be any problem. Just as in Beta, the WUs you have for the client you are running at this moment should still be claiming their credits. These units may still go back as a 4.xx WU in the next round.

Well I hope so Jordan, I just hate to dump 100 WU's that I could be running as hard as it is to get WU's around here at times ... :)

Actually, on any given normal day, I work from home. I'm in California at SSL for some meetings and stuff.

I'll be heading home on Friday.

Is it possible to run the v3 client in combination with a v4 server?

Why is the announcement for an upcomming major version upgrade only to be found on the message board? I think an entry on the homepage as well as on the RSSfeed would reach more users. Not everyone is a regular visitor here.
