Message 1438 - Posted: 24 Jun 2004, 22:11:09 UTC

So, I've just updated my preferences to keep .5-1 day's worth of units in my comp, and the message at the top says

"Your preferences have been updated. They will take effect when your computer communicates with SETI@home or you issue the "Update" command from the BOINC client."

Now, the reason I decided to change my prefs was because I have 3 completed units on my comp that have yet to be uploaded.

My big question is: How do I force an update?

I have the Winblows interface, and I see no where a button or tab, or column or header or anything that allows me to update.

Any suggestions?

Go to the Projects tab in the GUI, rightclick on the project you are running, then choose Update.

Don't be. It's a bit hidden.

But you're welcome. :)

Get your reading glasses out ... :)

As part of an "unofficial" effort to document the SETI@Home Powered by BOINC, the following documents have been written to aid you in the use of SETI@Home Powered by BOINC:

Get real James. It doesn't take all that. That is just for those the want to know all the details.

Really you don't need to. Just let the client run and it does everything for you. If you *want* to force updates then I guess you need to learn how but you don't seem interested in applying too much effort to the project so don't and the program will work fine :D

I couldn't find it either when I first started :) Also, in the Transfer tab you can rightclick a WU to "retry upload" if one gets stuck uploading, although this hasn't been happening (to me) since we got 3.19.

Paul, I didn't see that in the Owner's Manual, but then I didn't read the whole thing, haha :)

I think a "one pager" about "what's different between Seti Classic and BOINC SETI" (readme.txt that pops up on install) might be good. Credits will be a biggy and should be highlighted)

I'd do it, but the whole text would be:

"BOINC isn't ready, we have no WU's right now, and it's confusing. Plus, your Seti Classic Data is stale, and with the new scheme, no one can tell waht you really did!.

SETI Classic works, has data, and functions just the same as it did for a long time. All your old addons and settings will keep you crunching!"

Only about 500 pages to go :)

No, you are right that one is not in there... I am unfortunate enough to have cable modem so I don't see things like taht, by the time I say update they are gone before I can open the transfers tab ...

Well, it is there NOW ... :)

Well, most people would hardly ever need to use it, but it was helpful in beta.
