Hi All,

I've tried searching for the answer to my questions, here and on the BOINC forum, with no luck. Though that may say more about my search skills than anything else. So apologies if the answer is already out there somewhere.

I recently upgraded BOINC to 5.4.9 and everything seemed okay. But now I'm getting the following errors:

2006-05-24 12:43:04|SETI@home|Sending scheduler request to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi
2006-05-24 12:43:04|SETI@home|Reason: To fetch work

2006-05-24 12:53:56|SETI@home|Scheduler request failed: Error 413

I've checked the Server Status and News pages and can't see anything that looks relevant.

My guess would be that I messed something up when I upgraded BOINC. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Greg.

The only help that I can give so far is that the errors are normal HTTP errors.
So an error 400 is a bad request, while an error 413 means that you're trying to upload/download files larger than the limit set by something.

Are you using a proxy?

I too had that problem when I downloaded 5.4.9. I uninstalled it, deleted the folder. Downloaded the 5.2.13 version and did the crunch3r boinc version install into the folder along with the crunch3r seti enhanced install. It has worked flawlessly on 3 of my machines.

Yes I am. And I've now found some posts saying that is a problem for 5.4.9. :-(

I've tried uninstalling 5.4.9 and reinstalling 5.2.13, but the the client won't start. I get the following event recorded:

Event Type:	Error
Event Source:	Service Control Manager
Event Category:	None
Event ID:	7034
Date: 2006-05-25
Time: 08:19:38
User: N/A
Computer:	DUKCFA2455
Description:
The BOINC service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s).

And if I reinstall it in single-user mode:

***UNHANDLED EXCEPTION****
Reason: Access Violation (0xc0000005) at address 0x0042234C read attempt to address 0x00000158

1: 05/25/06 08:47:04
1: SymGetLineFromAddr(): GetLastError = 126

I can reinstall 5.4.9 and that starts okay. I'd rather not delete the few days of work that is stuck, unable to be uploaded. Any ideas or am I just screwed?

Greg.

Are you using a proxy?

Yes I am.

Greg, it is a known problem with some NTLM Authenticating proxies that they won't work. A fix is underway, but no ETA of when it'll be here. I'll go and find Pepo, another volunteer around here. He knows which test version of BOINC would still work.

TMM, if two other projects have no problem, it's isn't a BOINC specific problem. Are you sure you weren't trying to download during one of Seti's many outages?

AFAIK the last Boinc with NTLM proxy authentification (could be possibly your (Greg et al.) problem, thay it is disabled in 5.4.9) was 5.4.5. I'm currently using 5.3.31 behind NTLM auth proxy and am satisfied with it.

Hope it helps
Peter
