In addition to the subject matter, I would like to process Rosetta@home work units. Can I use the present Boinc Seti Software (5.12) to process ROSETTA@home work Units ? OR do I need to download and install the Boinc version offered from Rosetta@home ?
Hope all is well in your world everyone thanks for any help !!

The current BOINC Client (core client) is 5.4.9 and is available here.

The Seti Software (science application) is 5.15 (recently 5.12) and only runs WUs for Seti. Rosetta has its own science app and will (should) be able to use any BOINC client equal to or greater than their published minimum client.

You've got a bit of confusion between the BOINC software and the SETI software. You downloaded BOINC version 5.2.13, which will work fine with Rosetta. (aside, the current release version is 5.4.9, but it's not a required update) BOINC is managing SETI Enhanced version 5.12, which it downloaded on its own. When you attach to Rosetta, BOINC will get not only the work, but also Rosetta 5.16 to process their work. Apart from attaching and, if needed, adjusting your resource shares, you don't need to do anything else.

Hope this helps!

MJ

Thank you RandyC.
Since Seti is the only project I have ever been attached to, I don't know if BOINC is "project" specific or universally able to process any projects workunits.
I had no knowledge the enhanced version had already been changed to 5.15. My present and last Seti workunit is Enhanced , so Im assuming 5.15 is doing the work.
Rosetta's recommended version is 5.4.9.
If I understand you I should be able to attach to Rosetta@home project from the version of BOINC im presently using and process Rosetta w/u's.

I looked on thier site for advice but didnt find any reference to other versions of BOINC being able or UNABLE to process thier workunits.
Again, thanks for your help !

It is able to process all projects listed at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/ and then some. There are a lot still in Alpha/Beta that aren't listed there.

All projects crunch with their own science application that BOINC will download as soon as you attach to their project(s). BOINC doesn't crunch, it's a management program.

BOINC is the client that handles communication with the projects and orchestrates work-scheduling; it doesn’t do any data-processing aside from evaluating the system’s performance and keeping track of the time allocated to each project, so the user’s resource-share preferences are honoured while meeting the deadlines for each task taken on. The actual scientific work is done by separate applications provided for each project; they have no ‘awareness’ of where the work comes from or where the results go. This division of labour between the client/manager and the science apps allows the developers of the latter to concentrate on programming for their specialized purposes, relying on the common BOINC framework to deal with communication protocols, logging errors & statistics, and other general ‘housekeeping’ chores.
