It seems that BOINC 5.4.9 is recommended version now.
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php
But I can't download it from any mirror.
From where can I download it?

Wait a bit, the mirrors are probably still synchronizing.

yep, it's on the main download page. I guess it's released. Must be Jords comment in the Cafe that did it.

I don't know if this question is appropriate for this thread, but I just downloaded BOINC 5.4.9 for Windows and reinstalled Trux's calibrating client. Now BOINC doesn't start. So, Trux's client doesn't work with the newest BOINC, eh?

BOINC 5.4.9 installed ok for me... just that on one system, my standard WU automagically got "preempted" and some enhanced units started testing (no bigee, but I just wondered how or why).

Also, on my second system, all my cached (not yet tested) WU's got wiped, although new units immediately downloaded.

In any event, BOINC 5.4.9 seems to be working fine and has a few cool new looks (like the statistics chart).

Let's go find 'em, gang!

Are you showing: "earliest-deadline-first scheduling because the computer is overcommitted"?

Mine came up with that. It's no big deal. It's just trying to make sure that you get the work done before it's due.

I downloaded this before it was the recommended version, and works just great. Didn't lose any WU's, and of course a lot of the changes just don't affect me, but no biggie. I like to use the most current of things anyhow. :-) And BTW, nice mouse overs on the BOINC website also. :-)

Some of the Changes in 5.4.9:

A different port number, only port 31416 is used. This to prevent hijacking the port number by the OS or other applications and BOINC Manager saying it can't contact the client.

The traffic you see on your firewall is because the Boinc Manager's Task tab is now updated every second. So each second, Boinc.exe and Boincmgr.exe communicate with eachother. (Note: Leaving Boinc Manager open on the Tasks tab, when you have over 0.5 days worth of queue can take up some CPU cycles due to the refresh.)

The screensaver will now also give an RPC out, so your firewall software knows it is starting. This to prevent a hanging screensaver when you try to return to the desktop.

In case of a client_state.xml file corruption, due to you needing to reboot or a crashing OS, upon the next start of BOINC, the client_state.xml file is checked. If found corrupt, it's discarded and the contents of client_state_prev.xml is used to startup with.

New statistics.

New names for several menu items.

New and clearer error messaging. Some errors are now just warnings.

You can use the Account Manager. At this moment only BAM is semi-live: http://bam.boincstats.com (registration is closed again)

Network tracing built into the client. (see version details)

JM7 fixed several bugs in the work scheduler.

Further available changes in the version details.

Regards,

I believe that Trux only has versions for earlier BOINC managers. You will either have to go back to 5.3.x or wait for the next update. I am not clear yet whether the new manager hasn't already incorporated Trux's work? No doubt he will put something on his website very soon to clarify the situation.

Also, in the past if you had a crash, the "clientstate.xml" got corrupted and all your work was lost, now there's a fix for that.

Both BOINC 5.4.9 and Trux's calibrating client are the CLIENT. This means that you will run either BOINC 5.4.9 OR Trux's calibrating client.

The calibration part of the Trux client will soon no longer be needed: SETI 5.12 actually counts floating point ops., so claimed and granted credit are always very close.

I'm not sure what other changes are in the Trux client.

Not true. It will still do a lot for einstein. If I did not have trux's client installed I would be dragging the credits down at einstein. Without calibration claim 7 or 8 credits, with calibration 37 - 39 credits and the standard claim should be 42 for long einstein units. So even with calibration I still drag it down a bit. There will be many hoping that trux does a 5.4.x client.

I don't care that much about credits but I do like to see the numbers go up, lol. And since there seems to be so many that get bent out of shape over credits I use the calibration to keep them happy.

I setup BAM on this system the other day using trux's client but CC v5.4.9 is needed I think for full functionality of the account manager software. So in order to use it I am having to decide :
1) Do I install 5.4.9 to get this working and drag down the credits at einstein
or
2)Not install for now and hope that trux does a new client. But this option does not look good because there has been no activity at the truxoft site since january I think according to check-in notes.

Not positive on this but some have mentioned crunch3r also makes a calibrating client. If trux doesn't do it maybe crunch3r will update his if he has one. Just was checking crunc3r's site and can't find any mention of calibrating clients so guess some people are confused as to who's client they are using.
