One thing to consider, if the computer is a laptop with a p4 intel chip, you may get overheating problems. My fastest cruncher is a laptop, when I turn on HT, it gets way too hot, and the fan screams all the time. I leave it off. Just my opinion. :-)

Hmmm... well i think HT turned OFF is actually faster on Rnhanced WUs.
IMHO that's what i'be seen but you can prove me wrong one that one.

You would certainly know better than I! If you can publish a reference work unit then I could prove it for myself. Thanks.

Over in Einstein, after initial skepticism, we have agreed that for some of akosf's wonderful optimized versions HT with both threads running Einstein is definitely less productive than the same host running Einstein with HT turned off for Prescott, Gallatin, and possibly other hosts.

However, running HT under trux tx36 using the line:

<priority_projects>Einstein@Home,SETI@Home</priority_projects>

in truxoft_prefs.xml to force one Einstein and one SETI job at all times when work available continues to give wonderful enhanced productivity, even with akosf S41.07 (not the special HT version) and SETI enhanced 4.12 (crunch3r version).

So if you like both projects, and don't mind a fixed 50/50 resource allocation (using the priority projects mechanism causes the preferences resource allocation to be ignored, I think) this is a highly productive move.

@crunch3r
But is it at least twice as fast?

@Geek@play
There is a reference unit on Marisan's site, Reference unit CPU time Comparison Which was used to test TMR's initial optimisation.

@archae86
Been running dual P3 like that by having 'connect to network' setting at 0.05 days so only one unit of each project on computer at any one time for nearly a year, and for seti it gives boost of over 10% compared to running two seti units. Haven't looked at running two Einstein since akosf's optimisation.
