Use this thread to post information about your teams, recruit new members, engage in some friendly rivalry, and generally have fun. Please keep it clean and pleasant, and enjoy!

This thread will be closed and re-spawned when it reaches 200 posts, due to the typically graphic-intensive nature of team ads.

This thread is a continuation from the first Team Recruiting Thread.

Thanks to Fuzzy Hollynoodles for the original Recruiting Thread idea.

Calling all United States Citizens!!!

The facts are that the United States has nearly THREE times as many users and nearly FOUR times more credit than any other country. Then why does the United States not have the number one team in the world? SETI.USA was created to consolidate our users and become the #1 team in the world. We were the first team to surpass the 600K RAC and currently have the #1 RAC in the world. We are well on our way to our goal and would like to invite YOU to join us in our quest. Come check us out at Our Website or visit Our Message Board today!!

Seti.USA

Invitation is now open for all.

First to 500,000 RAC
First to 600,000 RAC

First to beat SETI.GERMANY in RAC, and still climbing.

It is not all about RAC, but it IS all about who crunches the most, as those will be the most likley to find ET.

Crunch On!

I know it's too much to ask for, and I'll undoubtedly get chastised for saying this, but one of the real positives I experience with running S@H is the fact that we are all working together, across national borders, philosophies, religions, economic status, etc., for the good of mankind. I think nationalism, if it is nothing more than cheering for your home team, is an OK thing... but often I wonder if some of its display tends to perpetuate the "we're better than you are" syndrome.

When I read the statement: " ...the United States has nearly THREE times as many users and nearly FOUR times more credit than any other country. Then why does the United States not have the number one team in the world?" I want to answer by saying, so what? Let's celebrate the leading team's effort no matter what country it is from!

I was deeply moved by the unspoken (yet surely known) technical "glitch" in Carl Sagan's novel, Contact, in which one of his major premises was to generate a spirit of cooperation among all the nations of the globe. If you understand a bit of celestial mechanics, you know that the star, Vega, is circumpolar above a certain latitude within the state of Alaska, USA. (Circumpolar meaning that the star never "sets" below the horizon at any time of day or night.) Sagan didn't mention that, because to do so, his beautiful story would not have required international cooperation to receive "the message" -- and I want to believe that, in his heart, that's what he wanted more than anything else to set as an example for humanity.

So, please don't take this personally, because it honestly isn't mean that way. I merely wanted to give my thoughts on the subject. S@H is an international project. And while a spirited "Yay for our team!" is a great thing... let's not forget that we are all in this together. Every nation. Every corner of our little blue planet. :-)

Laurel, I respect your opinion and for the most part even agree with it, but every team involved in DC has their base that they build on. There is a Navy Team, an Australian Team, a German Team and on and on. We decided to use our pride in the USA as the base for our team. It works for us and the method of recruiting by appealing to national pride also works for us as is evident in our increasing numbers. Now if my ads do not appeal to you that is okay as far as I am concerned, but I will continue to use what has proven to be successful in spite of those who continue to try to ridicule our efforts (not aimed at you so please do not take offense). You say "Let's celebrate the leading team's effort no matter what country it is from!", and yet very few here celebrate our successful efforts because of our pride in representing the USA or maybe because of our success, I don't really know which. Bottom line is - what we are doing is working and causing more work to be accomplished which benefits the science, so I have no regrets and will continue on the path I have chosen.

The Team United Macs

We are a small international Seti@home team consisting only of Mac users.
Currently, members from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Ireland, Canada and the United States
are in our team. However, we hope that in the future, "setians" from other
countries will join our team. New members are always welcome, provided
that they are "crunching" with a Mac. ;-)
