I'm a member of the team Scotland's Seti . We haven't heard from our founder for sometime (pre-boinc in fact). This is a little bit limiting for instance it means that there is no-one who has access to member e-mail addresse which makes keeping the team together difficult. We had a little chat about this on our forum and agreed that it would be better to have an active leader. I've been nominated unopposed for the position. What do we need to do to make this happen? You should contact someone at Berkeley. I don't know any of their addresses, but I'm sure there is a "contact" page or link somewhere on the web page for them. I agree there should be some way of cleaning up all of this, just like there are literally thousands of computers listed where the people crunched for a time and quit, or never even downloaded their first work unit. While I realize that the actual entrys in the database don't take up much room, but it would make things easier for us when we want to look up users stats. There are pages on top of pages in the stats of users that have never earned even one credit. And in your case, they should have a policy that if the team leader has not crunched within a certain period of time (turned in work and received credits) then they could have a script to email the members. They could pass leaderhip to the oldest active member on the team and make it a requirement that he modify the team page, or send a reply email or something if he was willing to take responsibility, if not it would automatically pass to the next oldest active member. I know this would not satisfy everybody but at least the team could have an active leader, and in your case if leadership passed on to someone else, they could assume leadership long enough to pass it on to you. The only problem right now is they don't have the computer capability. Their computers are already near to being overloaded as shown by the many outages we've had lately. But maybe something can be worked out in the future. I just started up a new team myself so I have an interest in seeing it thrive, but if something happened to me I would like to see it pass into someone elses leadership instead of just letting it die! At least I would have the satisfaction of knowing that something that I created is still active. (Matter of fact I've been working my tail off for the past week getting a team website set up. I started with simple web pages but that was too complicated to manage so I switched to a new self contained database driven system but then had network problems getting it to work! I didn't have much hair to start with but I don't think I've got any left now! Haha!) But as I didn't completely answer your question, no there's no way outside of contacting Matt or Eric or someone else at Berkeley to change ownership of a team. There's nothing can be done without going into the database and manually changing it. Jim Some people plan their life out and look back at the wealth they've had. Others live life day by day and look back at the wealth of experiences and enjoyment they've had. |
