All the shit with this program is a wast of time and energy! I was excited to start this and disabled the SETI classic and Folding@home to run this bonic F****-up, then low and behold I spend most of my time idle not getting work or not enough to last me a day! Then after I finish up all that I have then your shit hole of a surver crashes, loosing all that I did! This shit should of never left Beta, I will continue with Classic and when it ends I WILL NOT continue, nore will any other system that I have, or work on, or buld! I have beta programs all the time that I have had some problems with and fixed, this is not beta and should of never left Alfa!

Fine, I hope you feel a lot better after venting your anger in such an articulate manner.

1. Learn to spell.
2. Use of 'cuss-words' totally ruins your credibility. Watch your language!
3. Learn the proper grammar and syntax of the english language before you attempt to communicate using said language.
4. While you might speak for the systems you own, I seriously doubt that you can make that claim about systems you merely service or build for others.

And finally.... the obligatory

5. WOOHOO!!! More work for the rest of us! Don't let the door hit you where the Lord split you! ;)

Seriously... BOINC/S@H has had some growing pains since it left Beta. Hardware capacity issues, and downright hardware failures. Looking at your 'join date', I feel that you were not participating in S@H-Classic back when *IT* had problems. Sorry you feel so angry about things, but this is only a volunteer project, not something VITAL like food, water, or air. So BOINC/S@H lost 'work'. Big deal. S@H-Classic lost some as well, under quite similar circumstances (RAID failures leading to database corruption). Please consider giving BOINC/S@H another look after S@H-Classic ends... Which may be sooner than everyone expects.

Have a nice day, and be well.

As you can see, from my Joined: date, I have been crunching for SETI since just after it's inseption. At that time their goal was to get 100,000 users on board. They have exceeded that goal by leaps and bounds. Sure, in the beginning, they had their share of problems with the "Classic" version of SETI but they ironed them out. I remember not crunching for at least a week or more at one point. You just have to be patient while they iron out the problems here. As someone said earlier: We don't need this like we need food, water and air. If you decide to leave, that means there will be that many more WUs for me to crunch. Thanks in advance if you do. I would just suggest patience and stick with the project, it can only get better. AND WATCH THE LANGUAGE, PLEASE!!! L8R....

To prevent any further confusion who really is giving out "offical" information on these boards, as opposed to some self appointed insider or outsider; I have the following proposal. Dr. Anderson should post a message on the front page under the news column who at the University of California, Berkeley, Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) has the authority to speak for him and the above named organization. (This way some hack can't create a false account and make an unauthorized posting on the boards under his name)

Please give all the participants of this project a list of names who can post "officially" on these boards and therefore speak with authority in your name, that of SSL, and the Seti/Boinc project.

Your response would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for your time.

All you Pollyanna responders with your flippant responses to legitimate complaints about this project must be mindnumbingly stupid. Your attitude is unforgivable. How dare you ignore the anger that Battlemate represents? Do you think he's the only one? Do you think that this project, the SCIENCE that you hold in such awe, would be possible with just a thousand participants? A hundred? Ten? Don't tell me that will never happen: Battlemate had his limit and the rest of us have ours. And don't try to hide behind the excuse that Battlemate used foul language, because I've heard it out of a number of you too.

It makes it even harder for me to participate in this project knowing that there are such idiots as you poking fun of genuine angry responses to the massive problems plaguing SETI/BOINC. So, are you going to tell me goodbye too?

Are you trying to be cute? Funny? It appears to me, Paul, that you are just another blind participant who refuses to take this seriously.

Oh, did I vent my anger articulately enough for you?

I wouldn't know that Tom, you see, I'm just a blind idiot. If you feel that it is necessary to post a further reply, then it will be read but I've no intention of responding further. I wish you well.

Tom says:"Are you trying to be cute? Funny? It appears to me, Paul, that you are just another blind participant who refuses to take this seriously.

Oh, did I vent my anger articulately enough for you?"
If you are that angry we feel sad for you! We are ALL feeling frustration, but the rest of us are not letting it take control of our lives! If you do then we feel sad for you! THAT is why those that do let it take over their lives get ridiculed...they need some serious help! Maybe the ridicule is a way of trying to lighten up the response by them! Can't answer fully but it seems that some of you take this program WAAAAAAAAY to seriously! It is a SCIENCE project. It WILL take a very long time to complete. Even if we find the signal tomorrow the signal will not be verified to everyones satisfaction for months. Then the debates will come about what to do about it!
Tom take a break, go back to crunching Classic for a bit. Boinc will still be here when you decide to try again, it might even be up and running just like Classic by then!
OH...and this project will have its ebbs and flows of users, as all projects do, but there will ALWAYS be some that crunch because of the SCIENCE!!! Will it be enough, no one can answer that except Dr. Anderson and his sponsers. Me...I am guessing that there will ALWAYS be enough...the intrigue, the chance that you will process THE UNIT, etc, etc, etc!

Well, Mikey, the point that you have so deftly missed is that this project, despite 18 months in beta, is angering participants so much that many, like Battlemate, are just giving up. Yet, people like those in this thread, simply laugh and poke fun at them. The first time it was announced the project was so screwed up that credits/results were lost, there was a huge outcry; this last time, there was much less. I worry that perhaps these problems are driving people away or already have.

Yes, there will always be masochists who stick with this no matter what, but distributed computing works only when some critical mass of participants makes this kind of computing more productive than alternatives. And more complex analysis of raw data was only undertaken in classic SETI when the number of volunteers grew so large that we could do the extra work. At some point, the number of participants may go so low that the science would suffer.

The draw of this project for many is that "you [may] process THE UNIT", but no one has processed it yet, so more than a few (read the outpouring on these boards) participate for the credit: to reach personal goals or pass others in friendly competition. The present state of SETI/BOINC is that no one is getting credit, and the last we heard, results may have been lost.

You don't have to feel sad for me, I moved back to classic a few weeks ago, so my results were not lost this time. But despite your words of consolation to me, they ring false when you ally yourself with the insensitive dolts who giggle and snigger and make snide remarks at the frustrated folks who threaten to leave this project.
