Credits are for mostly bragging rights. It shows how much work you have done (Credits) and at approxiemately what rate per day (RAC). You can compare how you are doing against others, with the many stat sites out there.

They can also be used by the project administrators to show how much work is done to potential grantors.

Other than that, nothing else.

Credits.........mmmmmm

In fact, all they show is how much time you've allowed your PC
to do volunteer work, for the project that you have subscribed to.

You can in fact download a SETI certificate of appreciation at this adress:

Other than that, they are used to "rank" the users(below a link to your's)
