the updates on the SETI website about the on again, off again nature of the system are fine as far as they go...but as i read the forums i detect that the natives are getting restless...perhaps someone at SETI@HOME could act as a P.R. person and give a more in-depth rundown of what's going on...or in some cases, what's not going on...i know those in charge of making this project work are frustrated right now...and quite busy trying to right the ship...but there are those of us who can only sit and wait...and we would appreciate being kept better informed about the status of SETI@HOME.

Hmm... All day today it's said "August 26, 2004
We fixed the bogus URL bug and all servers are back up. If your cache is empty of all valid workunits and you have any of the bogus workunits, then reset the project." I decide to check in a bit later only to FINALLY see they said "oops... looks like we had a hardware issue. So sorry, we'll get right on that. Oh, and you can forget about all the backlogged reports you want to send, 'cause we're getting ready to change versions and your results will get wiped out when you change over. So sorry!"

So, what the F*** are we supposed to do, be HAPPY that the system is down and we can't upload our results while they are changing over to the new version? Get a clue, Pascal! Or are you the designated "everything's fine" person here? You really seem like a shill for the admins!

I think the real issue is when they say it is fixed and isn't...... don't promise what you can't deliver kind of thing. They should never have mentioned a client upgrade until it was up. And they did it TWICE this week. Also, fix what's broken, but don't tell anybody for a few hours. Just enough time to watch it break and then you can say, "we tested and it died."

I do aggree, its better to let ppl find out its working, when its not suppost to, then the other way around. Of course that way ur not not gona make so much uptime... but ur not gona piss of that much ppl either.
Coz i think alot of us out there have been quiet tired of al this problem that this project have been involved in.
And what the heck is "we were unable to recreate the problems we were seeing on Friday" (aug 16th) and when the fu*** have HW problem self repaired? or SW for that matter (refering to what happend between August 16th and 18th)
Ffs fix it all the way out, else it gona end up in ur ass someway (and it kinda did) and last... who on earth(?) made the decision to upgrade on a friday??
