By the way, this machine is ICKY ICKY slow.
[..] It uses lots of power, fills up space in your house, noicy, is ugly.. and so on.
Off topic, but 12 years ago, before the divorce, that's exactly what I said about the wife.
LOL! You're a funny guy! Was she icky icky slow too? :D

I have an old Linux machine in my closet I was coinsidering bringing out of hibernation.

It'sa PII MMX 200Mhx, the kick is that it only has 96 megs of ram.

Will this work?

Alinator , how fast is the optimized mmx app for the k6-2 !?

IHT:

I dug out my logs for the K6-x's. Here's the data from the stock apps:

782084 - 92120.33 secs avg. sigma: 7848 (K6-2/500)

795446 - 142550.52 secs avg. sigma: 6432 (K6/300)

806729 - 86954.76 secs avg. sigma: 4363 (K6-2/500)

882512 - 116292.39 secs avg. sigma: 9164 (K6-2/500)

These were calculated from the first 20 results they ran last year that I logged.

They aren't hidden so you can see what the opti results are for yourself. As I've said before, I tried one of the earlier MMX apps and saw no significant difference, so the latest version Crunch3r has released is a big improvement, at least for the older AMD processors.

Nah I don't bother running anything but the stock client on machines in this class. I figured the crunch times are long enough even with the opti app it doesn't adversely effect the granted credit. They still claim more than the other hosts for a given WU, and so rarely fall in the quorum the high claim doesn't count towards the granted enough to be concerned over.

My P4 is a different story though, and I'll be giving Trux's Calibrator a run pretty soon to compensate for its "new legs". :-)

My goal is to max out the performance of my boxes, but not at the expense of the folks who just install and forget the standard package. ;-)

My Pentium-MMX 200Mhz has been crunching a WU for over 24 hours now, ICK.

Cross your fingers it will be today, lol!

lol, it'll get there!

FYI, I came across a post from this user:

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_user.php?userid=7832425

He has a Pentium class host running with a result run time showing of just shy of 200K secs, FWIW.

I guess you just want to make sure you don't carry too many results and/or shut it off too much! ;-)

It just means I have an account at the Beta project. It will appear whether you run a result or not.

I'm not 100% sure, but since I decided it wasn't worth the effort for this class of processor I haven't checked into it fully. I do know Trux says he doesn't recommend his Calibrator for 9x, so that kinda ended the research at that point at least in my K6-x cases.

BTW, since the CC burns so little CPU time long term anyway, there really isn't any reason to run one unless you need to compensate for running an opti app. IOW it will have virtually zero effect on the overall crunch time.

<Edit> Regarding the Beta Project, I've read some posts which indicated they were getting ready to make another run on the Enhanced App, and were looking for folks to commit to running at least one to completion. Apparently, a lot folks started one up, then saw it indeed takes a bunch more time to crunch and aborted it. Needless to say this makes it difficult for the Devs to get a real good picture of how it performs overall under "normal" conditions. I've been thinking about doing one on my best performing K6-2 and the K6, just so they can have some more data on how "slugs" will perform. :-)

Strange!, I have a Setibeta account and have credit for returned results yet I don't have a "Volunteer Tester" tag?

Rats, just when you think you know the answer, they change the question! :-)

Now, I have no idea what the story is, unless it has something to do with a cross project database update or something like that. lol

I believe Eric manually assigns the Volunteer tag. Or more likely runs a bot to do it. You may have been missed. It was last done a couple of weeks ago.
You might want to pose the question on the Beta site.

I believe it is a manual transfer so the tag will not show up until the next time the transfer is made.

LOL
Just wait until she notices how many there are in the queue! She'll faint and say "Oh no, not another one!" ;D
BTW, how many WU's is a 10-day cache on this machine? 3? LOL!

I only let her have 1 day cache...that will still last me a week I think...I think she should finish up with it overnight...cross your fingers :P

opps, sorry, misread. Most people are in need of the app so pointed you to the app. Was wondering what the claim is for the mmx system? Most older systems claim quite high without an optimised client and you may not need it.
