To all the New users that are going over to Look at the Enhanced Beta Welcome... I know that I have been beating up the Seti Forum to Go and Look! You see many names here that you see helping in the Normal Seti Forum. They are here to help insure the Next Version is ready with as few surprises as possible. I would ask that if your machine gets One Workunit, that you take the time to complete it... If you get several then check and seriously consider completing them... You can Always say "No New Work" and when it is done decide whether to continue... One of the problems has been there are not enough people to get all Workunits to a Proper Quorum for Validation... AS I looked today there are a Lot of New People that have signed up and have atleast One Workunit... Have Fun... The slowest machine I have running here is a PII 400 and it takes about 712,000 seconds to complete a workunit... It will probably always be here (Seti Beta)... IT is stated that as Enhanced moves to Prime Time (here) then Astropulse will move in as it ready for broader testing... So You can be part of the Leading Edge... I Thank You for your time and Consideration Extra: For those that have migrated from Seti Classic I extend a Welcome! Many here are willing to Help if they have a clear idea of the problem. Yes when things are not going right it becomes tougher to say "this" is the problem... But Keep Trying! Regards Al PS. As I posted this in the Seti Beta Forum, I noticed that a Moderator "Placed Importance" on it... As I went to grab a copy to post here find that the "Importance" has been removed... That there is No "Offical Welcome" either Here or in the Seti Beta... Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

UncleBrownie To get to Seti Beta click On this Seti Beta It will take you there... Enhanced Seti Bata , How do you get there to take a look , where is the link to get there ? UB The Forum is not as active as here... Many that are doing both Seti BOINC and Seti Beta post here... One of the things that I have spent time doing is try to insure that information is posted here... This does not mean what I post is fully complete or 100 percent accruate... It is information, then we all have to be involved to know how it works for "us"... R/ Al Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

When do you get a volunteer tester tag under your name? But then I've still only got zero credits though my first WU is about 83% done. I guess I must get credits to get that tag. |

According to this post by MattDavis, he's signed up for beta, gotten the "Volunteer Tester" tag, but hasn't crunched anything. "Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?" |

Since they're separete projects, presumably granting Volunteer Status on SETI because of Beta involvement, is a manual process. I guess someone at Berkeley periodically pulls a list of registered beta e-mail addresses and assigns the VT tag based on that. You probably get your VT tag eventually just by being registered, regardless of work done - which might be seen as a tad unfair. |

which might be seen as a tad unfair. Yeah, it is unfair. 31.5 hours and my first WU is finally at 92%. |

I subscribed to Beta today and finished my first 4 Beta WU's in just under 6 hours. I'm running on a dual Xenon (not dual core) 3.2 ghz with HT. |

Everyone I have to be fair... What I see is that they are trying to get a Goood Mix of Angle Ranges in, before it starts showing up here... Paul Buck has noted from my previous posts that "Everyones Mileage Varys!" I agree 100% * I would also state once again that if you are doing Seti Beta, then you should be running the latest BOINC Core Client 5.2.13 which can be found at BOINC Downloads. * The other side effect would be that as more people run it, at time of the Quorum when credits are assigned there is less difference between computers... You win less, or lose less... You actually start getting compensated "more correctly" for the work your computer has completed... Currently "Credits are no proportional in the Seti Beta." That is a work in progress.. * If you start a workunit then you should let it finish... YOU can Always in the BOINC Manager say "No New Work." In fact, I would encourage/recommend getting the workunit or workunits and then saying "No New Work" until they have completed... Then You can add more or make the choice that that is enough... Every workunit that you complete helps to bring the next version, improvement one step closer to reality... As I looked have seen that quite a few people are going to Go Look. I would Hope, that a few have the resources to stay and help. * Crunch3r stated that he intended to work on the next round of Enhanced Applications this upcoming weekend... Hopefully he will have a MMX version that will help most of the older machines... This is a lot of work, and he is working to make it happen. There is a core group that are testing what he has running so far... The other major players are working on the various Nix, Mac etc.. versions... From the Header Currently: Windows optimized S@H application by Crunch3r Improvements by Tetsuji Maverick Rai, Hans Dorn, Harold Naparst, Ned Slider, Crunch3r, trux,... For Everyone that is Helping in Seti Enhanced, I Thank You once again... Regards/ Al Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

An Update Everybit of Help is Appreciated! WE, are once again seeing some of the longer workunits is Seti Enhanced Beta... I once again invite people to come and look around... NO, we do not have information as to when the Enhanced Science Application is going to show up here or what will be involoved. Seti Enhanced Beta IF you are inclined to attempt an Enhanced Workunit for testing, I would ask that you complete that one workunit... After receiving it take a moment to tell Seti Beta to "No New Work." Then you can decide to continue or retire... As a result of many of you going over to Seti Beta, we have seen a period where WorkUnits are actually being completed to reach a Quorum... This means that testing is actually "working" rather than waiting a period and a manual script validates the workunit... So as I manually went through the signups and see users starting workunits... Once Again Thank YOU! I will say that I am currently involved in testing Crunch3rs Optimized Enhanced Seti Application. I have started a PII 350 to test the MMX version of the Optimized App. If things work well will start a P 200 tomorrow... That would bring the total of my Seti Enahanced Beta Machines 7. You are more than welcome to review what I have completed at Pappa, there are others working on the Optimized Enhanced App but other than about 30 computers helping that information is not ready for the public. Thank You Al Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

Got my tag (I guess) a little after I signed to beta. But then again, I did sign up for Boinc back before it went out into the wild. Did not have a single credit for beta until now, had to finish the normal wu’s first after I converted from classic to Boinc. Of the wu’s that I have done on a pair of MP2800’s I have a time of mid 123K sec (1 day, 10 hrs). *Edit* Just checking the list of beta users, about half of the 1656 have credit of some sort. Two have some negative credit, hehe. IAS - Where Space Is Golden! |

Forgive my newness and ignorance, but I have to ask are they still accepting new members for beta? Every time I go to log in with my account I get unknown user messages. Looks like I would have to create a new account at this point? |

Everyone (this would be considered a cross post) From back into November 2005 * the users 840 Mostly inactive to about 942 (147 Active Users) * the computers 1500 Mostly inactive to about 1800 (about 300 active Computers) * From the 12th of Jan 2006 about 75000 credits have been granted Because of the Users that are Helping! This is important Because, enough people are spending time helping to allow the Seti Beta "Note" Eric to validate the WorkUnits. Keep Up the Great Work! A Gentle Reminder, If you started a workunit let it complete (with No New Work) If the machine is Multiproject let is flip back and forth (yes it will take longer). Completing the Workunit is the Important Part... Thank You R/ Al PS - Note to Eric: Please take time to go validate the Old WU's that will not reach a Quorum... We are working to keep New Seti Beta People working and every bit helps... Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

A Reminder, it still not too late to help with Seti Enhanced Beta. If you do not have an account create one and then crunch a Few Workunits. It gives you a chance to peek at where Seti is going... The general ethics are once you start a workunit, you allow it to finish... You are more than welcome to Select "No New Work" and decide whether to continue. After Seti Enhanced move here The Beta site will be used to test Astropulse... So once again your help would be appreciated. Regards Al Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |

WE have a Good Group of Users helping to get Enhanced ready to move here... You also can help... You can have a part in the furture of Seti BOINC! If You have not Looked, then at least go read some of the Forums at Number Crunching Then You can decide to be a part in the Future of Seti BOINC... As Seti Enhanced moves here then Astropulse will finally start to go into testing. You could be a part of that future project! Keep Crunching Al Please consider a Donation to the Seti Project. |
