Suppose I were to win 29 million in the lottery.. how big of an object can be put up in space? Ie.. if It were to weigh 100 Kilograms, how much would that cost to put up? |

Well, the russkies charge 20 million or so to put millionaires up, and they have to bring food and water with them. |

Budget on a few million a year for command and control, then software development, hardware development, launch, insurance, rental of control facilities transportation from the developers to the testing facilities to the launch pad, several years storage due to launch delays and queue etc. Your best bet would be to piggyback on another project, but you will still need several tens of millions. Either way, you will also have to develop your procedures for nominal and critical situation, how to handle safe modes, storage and download of date, onboard storage of time tagged commands, immediate command high priority commands, get an uplink and down link frequency allocated. How often will you make contact with the sat? Geostationary or LEO? If LEO, what orbit will you need, hight inclination etc. How about thermal insulation, house keeping on board? How will you perform attitude control? What about the fuel system. Well if you want to look into it, I have a lot of contact who built ROSAT, BIRD, CHAMP and GRACE 1/2 and I will be going to Astrium next month for TerrSAR/X. Im sure they could help, for a fee :) Regards |
